What simm for my board?
« on: February 23, 2009, 02:35:29 PM »
Hi guys,
my 1200 has a "GG9626"(thats what the box says i think it may be MTEC as that picture matches on amiga hardware.com) upgrade board in it, its populated with a 4mb sim. My question is what 8mb simms are compatible with this board? does anyone know? also, what are the chances of stumbling accross a FPU and Crystal to populate the other slots on the boards these days?

I can't answer the SIM question unfortunately  :-?

But the FPU and Crystal should be available from AmigaKit, Maplins or CPC(Farnell). I know I've bought them from there before.

will the fpu give me any noticable performance advantage in the likes of whdload and classic workbench? and do i need a crystal if i have a fpu? im a bit green on these things. i know i could really do with populating the sim slot with a 8mb simm because with classic wb full installed i cant play some games, such as worms directors cut aga

heres all the info from the 4mb stick thats in it already;

72pin 1x32 70ns simm
gg2751
j/r

hym532120w-70

6c29aa

If thats of any use to anyone?

just to add, im looking at this on ebay

 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HYUNDAI-HYM536220WG-70-8MB-FPM-72-PIN-SIMM_W0QQitemZ360129778758QQihZ023QQcategoryZ172QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

It seems to be of a similar model number? same manafacturer etc

mine is       hym532120w-70
and this is   hym536220wg-70

worth a try?

An added FPU will not help WHDLOAD or your Workbench a bit. Focus on the RAM.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)

90% af all 72pin simm modules will work. I have tried a cigar box full of 4 - 32mb modules, most of them work with my 1230 acc. card :-)
A1200, Blizzard 030, 2+32MB ram, 4GB CF, pcmcia netcard, Kickstart 3,1
A600, 2MB chip ram+4Mb pcmcia S-RAM, Kickstart 3,1
CD32 - Just for fun  :-D

Thankyou Taunusand, on the strength of your comment i ordered the memory id been looking at, it arrived today and works!!! So happy, now i can run ClassicWB full and whdload and still play worms directors cut (and nearly every other game).

However, that leaves me with another question which is as follows;
Now i have 8mb in my trapdoor, my pcmcia slot crashes the computer which i was fully prepared for after reading it in many posts. However, i do want to use the pcmcia slot on occasion for file transfer and was wondering if changing the jumpers on the RAM card back to 4mb will work with a 8mb simm in place? will it limit it to 4mb or does the slot need to be populated with a 4mb for those jumper settings to work? :-?

thanks a bunch peeps  :-D

I don't know if this will work for your card.
But, if i press and hold "2" while my A1200 is booting, it starts without the extra memory and only uses the internal 2mb chip ram and 020 processor.

That only works on blizzards.

You can jumper the ram down to 4mb and try it...a lot of simms are happy to run this way and some arent....give it a go, obviously making sure the amiga is switched of when changing the jumpers.

cheers all, problem solved by jumpering the ram down to 4mb. it seems quite happy to do that, allowing me to use my pcmcia slot again.
Thank you all very much for your help :-D  :-D
