Hah for a minute I thought you were going to describe some hack to get a SID working in an Amiga, that'd be freakin' awesome.

Anyway I'd recommend getting a 1200 from AmigaKit.com, they've got good prices, great support/warranty, etc.

As far as a SID, it almost seems easier and cheaper to buy a spare 64. Then you've also got spare parts (such as the PLA chip that also seems to die often).

A clockport SID card would probably be pretty simple to make.

Yeah, maybe, I wouldn't know where to start with designing either hardware or drivers... but it'd sure be fun to be able to make use of that great SID sound in addition to what the Amiga can already do.

Heh! The SID is a huge improvement on the ST's AY-3-8912 square wave generator, as used in the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC ranges!

SID chips have a fantastic sound, and are still very sought after by people who make electronic music. You can get a SID chip (or two) on a card for PCs, and there's some stand-alone machine that's SID driven.
