Word Worth vs Final Writer
« on: February 19, 2009, 11:21:42 PM »
Hi,

(Unfortunately) Bank in the Amiga days I only used my A500+ for gaming and most of those games where installed for me by my brother.

However my brother had ordered both Word Worth and Final Writer. The disks I have of Word Worth still work but those of Final Writer do not!

However more important than that I was wondering what (in your opinions) is the best out of these two? Or is there maybe a document writing tool which is better then these two.

I have an A500+ with an 030 processor and 2MB chip ram plus (soon) 8MB of fast ram.

Regards,
Sim085

I've always preferred Final Writer.  I own Wordsworth too, but the bugger won't install on my A4000 large partitions because the fricking installer thinks that I don't have enough room (seems to hate any partition bigger than 2GB).

I'll try it on my Minimig when I get back from work.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Both are the 'top of the line' as far as word processors on ancient technology like an Amiga go. Getting the extra RAM with either would be a good idea, since with only 2 megs and an 030, it'll be a little slow. Which versions do you have?
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

I have Words Worth version 2 and version 5. And Final Writer release 5. My processor is 030 but I am sure my brother did manage to install them back then.

I've had the same problem with other software installs in the past with my 40GB HD - all I do is edit the install script and modify the disk free space check in the script. :rtfm:

It normally works like a charm  ;-)

Which is the last version of Words Worth available which can be installed on an A500+ for Workbench 2.1, 3.1 and 3.9?

"Available" is a strong word, as I don't think it can be bought new anywhere. But the last version is 7, which has a couple of updates and includes an as-you-type spell checker and Euro support. It's pretty nice but font and printer handling are sometimes a little awkward. I've never used Final Writer so I don't know what that's like in comparison.

Does anyone know, by the way, if FW lets you print TTF or CG fonts to a postscript printer? WW7 subs in PS fonts and eliminates images, making it look awful :-(

Engineers do it with precision

Final Writer is by far the better program. Try to get the last version; Final Writer 97.

Cheers.  I'll give that a go.  I have 2 80GB hard drives split into 4 x 40GB partitions using SFS.

Well, I have WW7 installed on all my miggies, except for my bare-bones A1200. I'm a bit of a font 'junkie',  so WW7's ability to use CG, TrueType, and Postscipt fonts is a plus for me...
