Choplifter Game?
« on: February 17, 2009, 07:27:18 PM »

Are there any good "choplifter"-type games for the Amiga?  Something similar to the versions for Apple, Commodore, Sega, etc...  It seems ported to just about everything but Amiga.

:-?

Thanks.

The original Br0debund version of Choplifter predates the Amiga by several years.  Later the rights of Choplifter was sold to Atari which made the Atari ST series, the arch-rival of the Amiga.

There is one game I loved on the Sega genesis, I haven't played the Amiga version that much so I cant remember if the game play is good, but it is definitely worth looking in to. It is called "Desert Strike".
It is similar to Choplifter but more robust.

Desert Strike was made for the Amiga and I believe it's on the net somewhere.

It's not, it was first released for the Apple II and later for other 8bit computers, there was even an arcade version by Sega. There never was an Atari 2600 version.

I guess that game that I played on my atari 2600 from that cartridge that said choplifter on it was something else then.

Thanks, I will check it out.

Some interesting posts, I learned more about Choplifter then I expected.

As for those asking what choplifter game was about...  Kind of like Silkworm but your goal in each mission was to free and retrieve prisoners.  (and this would sometimes take multiple trips)

I'll bet that was Chopper Command, a very cool game (played it a lot). There is no Atari 2600 version of Choplifter, there was an Atari 7800 version (got it here).

Apart from Apocolypse there's a game named Fire! is the closest thing I can think of. The main theme starts with some dude litterally screaming "FIIIIIRRRRREEEE!!!" heavy metal style.

Depending on the your system, there is also mame for the arcade version of the game .
beyond that check out Dark Unicorn's Desert Apache.  Do a search and it will come up.  It was the later two fmv releases form the team the first being Tomcat.  Desert Apache offers full screen, and more color, pretty cool, not like choplifter though, if that's exactly what you're looking for.
