Escom/Amiga 4000T won't boot to Workbench
« on: February 13, 2009, 05:25:18 PM »
I recently purchased an Escom/Amiga Inc 4000T.  It has a 060 and 128M of ram.  I got it w/o HD but it came with 3.1 and an 060 floppies still sealed.  I installed a 73G HD SCSI and CD.  When I boot off floppy, I get a workbench screen w/o any icons.  I have tried a 1.3 WB and I get the same thing.  However, if I boot a game from floppy it works.  I think I have a SCSI conflict?  I have HD as 0 and CD as 2.  Didn't have time to remove HD and just try booting from the floppy.

I don't have a manual for the 4000T but it has a SCSI 3 on the 060 and a SCSI 2 on the motherboard.

Ideas?

Termination of the SCSI chain perhaps?

@mike; you beat me on the question about the accelerator

Yep, but the two i have have usually booted the workbench disk, the install disk is a different question tho, there is enough room on the disk i the 060 libs, if you clear out the languages you dont use.

It is the Amiga, inc version.  It also has a termination card at the rear of the tower where the mouse/joystick/parallel and serial ports are.  I have never seen where it boots to WB and no icons.  It is very weird.  There are dip switches on the back of the card which address it.  If the card was 0 and my HD was 0 would that cause this?  Ever see this problem before?

BTW, I am using the MB SCSI not the 060.

Hi.

You need the workbench.library.

As ascom a4000T have the scsi2.library in rom. It have no space for workbench.library in rom.

You need the orginal A4000T os 3.1 disksett.
These disk have the workbench.library.

I am using the original disks that were sealed. They say Amiga OS 3.1 4000T.  Another issue is that with the 060 it needs the 060 lib and 060cpu which I had to remove the HD Toolbox and all the languages except English to make room for it.  If it doesn't have those libs it will just Guru.

Hope you did that to a backup copy...

It's SetPatch that makes an 060 Guru if the libs aren't installed. What you can do to skip it is boot from the floppy without startup-sequence, assign ENV: to RAM:, run LoadWB, and then run the Installer from the cut-down system.

When it tries to reboot the machine, copy the dummy 68040.library and the 68060.library to Libs:. Then let it reboot. It should boot right back up to a normal system.

If workbench.library is still somehow missing, you can pull it out of another (non-4000T) 3.1 ROM image with RomSplit/Remus.

Yes a copy.  I don't want to mess up the originals.  Thanks I'll try that when I get home.

If you got the Quikpak version of the 060 card (can you post a photo of the 060 card?) then the 060 disk is bootable and you can install the 060 libs on the sys: partition... you can download that disk from my website at http://www.hd-zone.com
