EMPLANT 586 - Any info?
« on: February 11, 2009, 01:33:02 AM »
Hello,
please I'm searching for any info to run 586 core on my Emplant Deluxe boards.
What I've found on the net (very few infos) a special GAL is required, labeled P1-0595, because it should work as a dongle to let the software 586 run.
I have every version of the disk software, but I believe I can do nothing without that GAL. Am I right? :-?
Anyone have some info on HOW-TO-CREATE this kind of chip?

Thank you

Francesco

I haven't used my Emplant cards for almost 10 years now
so I don't remember very much about them. I do remember that
as the software got better the cards eventually became
redundant. If you can find a copy of Fusion, it's way
better than Emplant in every way and doesn't require the
card. Now I use Basilisk on the PC.

I don't know if it was intended as a dongle, or if an updated GAL was required to fix bugs (either is possible with good ol' Jim Drew). Regardless, I've never seen 586 emulation working on the Emplant.

One with the correct chip was on eBay a year or two ago and, annoyingly, I think it has the exact same markings as the original chip.

Did anyone here end up with that board?

Jim Drew was a lot like McBill, only more so.  I had an emplant board but eventually gave it away, there's really no reason to run classic Mac OS.  I remember having a copy of the promised 586 emulator, it never worked for me.

I had that board with the upgrade.  I gave it to amigadave.  It had the chip and the docs with the disks.  Contact him if you want to know more about it.

Fusion is "only a Mac emulation, (am I wrong?) I have it somewhere, but I don't mind it right now.
What I was enjoying to, was to have a look at the 586 emulation, that's all. :-)

Thank you

I just bought one on Ebay marked as "586 module in", but at the first impact it doesn't seem to be, that's why I'm searching for more infos around..
I only found a review on "Amiga magazine" (italian version) where they wrote about an updated GAL to activate the 586 module..
