ROM Switcher with toggle switch instead of mouse switch???
« on: February 10, 2009, 12:31:56 AM »
Hi,

I have an omni-boot rom switcher for my A2000 and can't seem to find any info for it online. It works with black wire to Gary(3) and CIA(8) for left mouse button switch but doesn't work with black wire to Gary(3) and Paula(33) for right mouse button switch.

Actually I would much rather use a 'real' switch mounted to the back of the miggy. Could I do that instead?

I was just going to try it but don't want to damage anything.

Thanks all for your help,
Tim

Like this?

Made by, and I believe still available from Amiga.org member 1985BMWK75 (http://www.amigamaniac.com/).

Edit: I re-read your post and it sounds like you want to see how to add a toggle switch to your omni switcher, not replace it.  Sorry about that.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yeah, actually played around with this some more.

L-Mouse rom switch works fine, but I believe L-Mouse is also 68000 fall-back for my GVP accelerator, so I don't want that conflict.

R-Mouse which is supposed to work thru Paula just doesn't work.

So if I could just hook black lead that goes to Gary chip and Red lead that goes to CIA chip to a toggle switch - that would be aces!

Thanks,
Tim

I don't know if this is what your looking for and I haven't researched this response well. There were some homemade rom switchers on Aminet that were dirt cheap.

If I recall, the two roms were piggy-backed (pin 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc) except the pin carrying ENABLE or SELECT.  A simple toggle switch would ground this pin alternately on one chip but not the other.  Simple!

If you find and study these docs, it should provide insight to modifying your switcher.  All of the extra electronics on commercial switchers were for watching for an unusual signal (like reset being held for 3 seconds) and sounding a beep to indicate a rom switch.

EDIT:  I suppose, if you figure out what the signal transition on the left mouse button is supposed to be, you could simply add a pushbutton that does the same.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and understand the material, this should not be too tough.
