No video output on A1200T with Blizzard 1260
« on: February 06, 2009, 05:35:43 AM »
Received very badly packed A1200T with Blizzard 1260 today.  It powers up with some audible hard disc activity, but that's about all I can say.  Getting a black screen.  Any fairly obvious first steps?

Disconnect the HDD, Blizzard & any other expansions that may be fitted.

Turn it on & see if you get the "tick" screen.

If you see the tick, start by attaching one thing at a time & starting it up.

PZ.

Make sure the memory sim is firmly in place on the 1260.

Just checking the obvious - do you have a graphics card or using RGB. Have you connected to a TV or a monitor?

Right, just used working 1084 monitor.  To complicate everything, there is a Toaster 4000 board associated with the video and a VidiON adapter.  I don't full understand how everything is rigged up, but the video seems to be one of two problems.  The other is that the CDROM drive will not open even when I press the front open/close button.  So I have a feeling that the problems are more global than just video.  I may need to dismantle the entire system and try to rebuild? :-(

orb85750: It would probably be best to take everything out, make sure all contacts are clean, etc.. I would double-check the 1260, try removing and inserting the card several times*, if you have a good, safe contact cleaner, use that. (I use Tun-O-Wash by Chemtronics, safe for PCB's and all plastics, probably not too safe for people, tho  :-o ) IME, 1260's are quite dependable, but once or twice the contact between my 1260 and 1200T got dirty or somthing, and it showed the same symptoms you describe.
I know it's a pain to take everything out, and start over... But, really it's the best way to find out just what's wrong on your system. (I had to do that with my troublesome A4000T, still in pieces awaiting a better PSU ....

if the cdrom gives no response i would look at the power supply first, the cdrom uses both 5v and 12v and if either one of those rails have gone it will not be responsive and neither will the miggy.
