So what do you do with it all?
« on: September 08, 2003, 11:01:13 PM »
OK, everybody's got tooled up to some degree or other. Great. So what do you do with it all?

My own Amiga's spec can be found on my website, which pretty well covers everything I do with it.

If it's of any interest, go to http://waveguide.v21hosting.co.uk for details.

So what about YOU? What do you do with all that hardware?

Cheers,

JaX

I usually fool around with my other Amiga systems and keep them more for the sake of collecting than anything else...well, maybe a little gaming too, but my main A4000 PPC unit I use as an alternative to PC/Windows, such as for browsing the web, e-mail, usenet, gaming, etc. If only Amiga had a web-browser which is on par with Netscape/IE, so I could do my banking with it... :-(

Hey, now this is a fun topic! ;-)

I do all kinds of things.  Mostly, though, I don't do anything that cannot be done elsewhere, I just prefer the AmigaOS/MorphOS way of doing things.

ARexx stuff, Installer, ShellScripts, build webpages, websites, daily tasks such as email and browsing.  Really, I use my systems as a general purpose machine, everything from games to coding. And, believe it or not, I even write an occational fanfiction or two (just to break up the monotony of intrests!).
Regards,
Targhan

I have a "classic" Amiga PPC/BVision that I use amongs other things to help produce Total Amiga magazine http://www.totalamiga.org by writing articles and assisting with layout.  Manage the accounts of Total Amiga and SEAL usergroup http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk  Edit and correct my home digital photography, surf the net, play games, listen to music whilst doing it all and generally have fun which I wouldn't have using a PC.

I also have a G4 AmigaOne awaiting OS4 so I can do it all faster :-)

Well, I use my Amigas for the internet (MiamiDx, IBrowse, YAM, AmIRC, ATC, Jabberwocky).

I program them in assembler, C, and E.

I sometimes write music in AHX or Protracker.

When I need to do some graphics, I use Perfect Paint, Personal Paint, and Photogenics.

For audio processing, I use SoundFX which came with my repulse card.

I also play a few games like Stunt Car Racer, Archer Macleans Pool, and Robocod.

I just really enjoy using my Amigas.

Edit: Oh yeah... I also use my Amiga to take pictures off of my digital camera using my Algor and poseidon.

I can't wait to get my hands on OS4 :-)

My A4k is mainly just for playing old games and watching demos.

My Pegasos is used daily and I use it for listening to MP3's, watching DVD and DivX movies, programming, playing Mame (it's faster than my 1Ghz G4 Mac!), browsing the InterWeb, and all the other "normal" things people do with their computers.  It is networked to my Mac and I can share files, and the Pegasos shares the Internet connection (512KBit ADSL).

Music and coding mostly :-)

-edit-

Posted too soon. I just love tinkering with them. Amigas are virtually unique in the way you can mess them about and get away with it :-)

I agree with Karlos, My A2000 is my "hobby' computer.  I just enjoy tinkering with it endlessly (usually the hardware part), it's been very forgiving when I mess with the software part.  I don't think I'd get away with that on any other machine.  Seems no matter how bad I muck things up, it always lets me straighten it out and works great as before. :-D  :-D

Most of my time is taken up by Lightwave these days, seems there's not enough time in the day to get to do everything that I want to do with my Amigas.

I'm sure other lightwave users know all about this addiction.  ;-) Eat less, sleep less, Lightwave, Lightwave, Lightwave, no time to waste on anything else. Does it ever end ?

Well, I have to force myself to try and do other things like play a game or go out and get fresh air once in a while, just to come down off the lightwave high.

Maybe we can get a day to extend to 26 hours so I could take care of other things once in a while. :-P

My 1200 is my only computer so I do pretty much everything on it.

More specifically most of the time is spent tinkering with the OS, but also these fun things:

   - Internet (IBrowse, YAM, an unstable AmIRC)
   - Programming in AmiBlitz2
   - Trying to program in GCC
   - Playing and modding Freeciv
   - Gaming
   - Writing research papers (archaeology)

And these aren't such fun, but I do them anyway:

   - Writing lesson plans (I'm a teacher)
   - Doing copious amounts of unnecessary
     paperwork (on WordWorth or PageStream)
   - Managing my band's finances (or lack of)
Amiga 1230/50 + 34MB  (OS3.5 + DOpus 5.82)

HAHAHAHAHA!! Well, I have to admit... As much of a zealot as I am, all I do with my Miggys is tweak WB and play the occational game. That'll change one of these days, when I can 'Tool Up' enough. 640x480 SUCKS!  :-P

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

I program in ARexx (...and AmosPro ;), pixel graphics with PPaint and DPaint, play the odd game etc. Basically, I just fool around with it :)
