I find your post quite offensive.
It should be "you're gay" not "your gay"

I've never really been that impressed by PC demos considering the hardware they can get if thy want......

Now good demos on a set piece of hardware like amiga or on a console, that push what the hardware can do thats impressive.

If you have ghosts you have everything

Roky rulz!!!

Not to be a nitpicker here, but the demo isn't running on a vanilla A1200, but requires an 040/060 accelerator to run smoothly, so let's say 15-16 year old PC. The Pentium was released in 1993 (16 years ago), so at least I've seen just as impressive stuff on 16 year old PC ;)

@mikrucio

I think you don't understand what demoscene is about. Demoscene is about using all the features of your machine and breaking limits, not about comparing classics with modern demos.

BTW, art is art regardless of the media used. Following the logic of some people oil-paints are rubbish because a photograph may be more realist.

I have watched c64 demos that are better than Amiga ones and it doesn't mean a c64 is better. It's just a mixture of artistic sense and outstanding coding skills.

There are drawings done with a pencil by artists hundreds of years ago that will always be better than some 3D raytraced image. And that is due to design and style.

You have to keep in mind the date and platform when a production is released. It's the same as music: Kraftwerk was revolutionary but an Elektro group now won't be revolutionary or amazing regardless of having "cleaner" sound or better instruments.

Your comment sounds like an idiot laughing of Da Vinci's art claiming he can take better pictures with his 100$ digital camera.

@ crumb

That's well said crumb.

I remember years ago in a newsagent two young kids were laughing at the graphics in a C64 magazine.

I stepped in and pointed out the machine was older than them, and that in a few years time there'll be little boys laughing at the graphics on their nintendo whateveritwas.

No respect.

If one looks at the demo out of context it's old and simplistic, if one looks at the demo and realises that it's a 17 year old computer with the computing power of a wristwatch then it becomes more impressive.

In the end it will only be retro freaks who will appreciate them.

Do space even matter anymore?  I've got a couple Terrabyte of storage that is currently less than half full.  Most people have some sort of broadband connection and video can easily be streamed.  Even when I'm running GPRS rather than wifi or hsdpa on my iPhone it's still faster than the old despised dialup modems of the past.

Yes, I can and I have seen. Stuff doesn't magically become smaller just because it's made for the Amiga you know.

Oh, and just to nitpick again, the demo is actually ~2MB ;)

Technically impressive (but conceptually kind of boring) demo. The "17 year old computer" thing doesn't quite hold though. When did the 060 boards start popping up? 95? And when you have one of those it's basically your amiga that's expanding the accelerator, not the other way around.

Now, comparing it to PCs, I can take any pentium mobo and upgrade it to run quake II pretty fluently.

Don't get me wrong here, the demo is still very impressive, but comparing the Amiga to PCs beyond 1992 is just pointless.
