Here is something interesting I came up with. I believe Defender of the Crown may very well be the most universally compatible game for the Amiga.  I have tried it on just about every model and it work flawlessly.

If by the three next gen OSs you mean MOS, AOS4 and AROS, then the answer is no since AROS is not binary compatible with AmigaOS. I don't see why a system-friendly game couldn't run on all models of real Amiga and also on MOS/OS4, but currently it would need to be ported to run on AROS.

Chaoslord, could you give me a list of some well known older games that run on the A1200?  I have tried over 10 games and only Def Of Crown worked.  Also, is there a web site that lists the compatibility for each game on the Amiga?

Thanks.

Dune II works on all my Amigas :-)
A500 Kick 1.3 -> A4000 Kick 3.1
NOT WHDLoad, either run it from disks or install it on HD ;-)

I have not tried it on my A1000 though, I don't think 256kb memory is enough.
A1200, Blizzard 030, 2+32MB ram, 4GB CF, pcmcia netcard, Kickstart 3,1
A600, 2MB chip ram+4Mb pcmcia S-RAM, Kickstart 3,1
CD32 - Just for fun  :-D

Scavenger Hunt: Adventures Through Time works on my A1200 but I think it was programmed in the A500 era. I'd say that probably any OCS game that didn't hit the hardware would work on up through AGA. Games that did things that Commodore said not to do don't work alot.

Well, not quite true... Monkey Island (and Monkey Island 2) runs on any Amiga... and all three of the NextGen Amiga clones ;-)

Activision Shanghai runs in multitasking even on a fully specced a4000. :-)

IIRC it didn't like being promoted to RTG modes, but if you let it run in a custom chip mode, it works perfectly.

Yes, but only because of ScummVM, which is a port. The game doesn't run natively on AROS :-P

The first Amiga game "Mindwalker" is well known because it runs on any Amiga.  It's more compatible than DotC or Shanghai for sure, because it's the only one of the 3 that can run on an accelerated A4000 and an unexpanded A1000.

Before someone says DotC and Shangahi run on an unexpanded Amiga 1000, think carefully.

I hate to dissappoint you, but my original copy of DOTC
which runs good on my a500, it never worked on my amiga 1200. SO I disagree it is compatible on most amigas.

That's a bit harsh! ScummVM is just a re-implementation of the game script interpreter... the actual game is from the very same disk that I used to play on my Amiga 500... in my book that counts as the same game... had the game itself been rewritten to work on other platforms then I would agree with you. :-)

Anyway the point is mute... Monkey Island, I'm sure needs 1mb ram... so the original A1000 is out.

-Edit-
I just checked the box... 512K required... 1Mb recommended... so maybe!!!
