IDE CD-R/RW DRIVE PROBLEM
« on: September 07, 2003, 11:28:34 PM »
Actually I`ve tried to connect my 2 years old burner Ricoh MP7120A (12/10/32) to my A1200 instead of 48X CD-ROM to get my HDD back-uped, but system hasn`t even detected the drive. The switching was OK. Tell me how old and obsoleted drive I should use to get my data burned? Or is it even possible without proper EIDE/FATA contorller? thx.. ;-(

The controller isn't the issue. All drives should be backwards compatible. I bought a new CD-R for my Amiga this year (LiteOn) and it worked first time. It may just be this particular drive that's incompatible.

@MASACREWILL

What software are you using?  With what interface are you using to connect the drive to the A1200?

I had some problems hooking up a CD drive to my 1200, having to do with the drive spinning up too slowly, and not being ready when the A1200 went looking on the bus.  This was solved by powering up the drive before the A1200 (it had a seperate power supply).

Good luck,
Mike

"scsi.device" is an emulator that supports HDDs only, not CDs. You will have to get something like "atapi.device" from the "IDE-fix" archive on Aminet.

There are packages like MakeCD and BurnIt that are supposed to support CD-RW, but I don't have any experience with them.

..I`m using OS 3.5 and MakeCD. I`ve forgotten to mention that I`ve got a "scsi.device 1 not found" alert in the WB after booting up. So it could be problem of scsi.device compatibility, maybe.. thx anyway..

Did you set the master/slave jumpers correctly ? If the drive comes from a PC it is probably jumpered as master. As your hdd is master, too, this does not work. There must be only one master and one slave on one IDE bus.

Bye,
