El cheapo Greycell Gold NE2000 10Mb PCMCIA card problem
« on: January 25, 2009, 10:24:38 PM »
Got one of those off of eBay but never tested it, till today...
PC allways reports network cable is NOT connected. I know it's not the PC since connecting to my router works fine.
The card has an ethernet as well as a coaxial connector. Do I need to set some registers in the card through software to set the port or it's automatic ?

CardPatch is installed, already tested with 500 tick (that's half a second wait!) so don't think it's that, it's also stable (ChessMaster 2100 keeps crashing with it inserted though, but the rest is fine...)

Any ideas please ?

After an hour of running up and down and exchanging cables I found the following pattern:
- PC to Amiga connection with long cable: Not working
- PC connection to router with long and small cables: Ok
- Amiga connection to router with small and long cables: Ok!!
- Amiga to PC connection with small cable Ok!!!

My guess, after a sudden flash, is that one of the cables must be crossover, the other isn't. The router works ok with any, I've read more recent routers detect crossover cables, probably the shortest one.
