Amiga viruses?
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:59:06 PM »
Does anybody have some info to share about any sorts of viruses on any Amiga there is?

I remember Saddam Hussein on my A500 that struck back after the first Gulf War.  All I remember is that it was infecting DiskValidator file, making some mess (if you deleted the file, the whole floppy files would have been broken) but eventually it was easy to heal.

Any others that you know of?

Regarding OS4... If someone ever managed to write a virus for this very system, it would be so exciting that I think he should actually be selling it.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Thanks.

But it says nothing about systems version.  Looks like A500/A600/A1200 to me.

How about more recent ones? 3.1? 3.9?

How where viruses transmitted in the amiga world? I mean back then without any internet it must have been very hard for virus developers to get their virus out! or?

It was just as easy with the amount of disk copying/swapping that went on.

Heh.. almost everyone I knew back then mostly had copied games. And those who didn't know much what they were doing with computers had virus infected disks mostly :) And those people didn't keep their disks write protected... it was pretty wild time with viruses. You saw much more viruses than today in internet. And then came BBS times...
