What is OS 4x for?

Please excuse my ignorance, but on what machines is OS 4.0 and 4.1 used?
A1000
A1200 - Indivision. Apollo 1240.
A2000 - GVP 040-16 meg, 2 meg chip, CD-RW, Flicker Fixer, Picasso II, 8 Up, 286 Bridgecard, OS 3.9
A2000HD #2 - 8 meg RAM, Genlock, Tower case

AmigaOnes (discontinued)
A couple of PPC add-in cards for some classic Amigas (discountinued - insanely expensive used).

Any opinions on the SAM?

You may wish to ask that on amigaworld.net or amigans.net. That way you'll get opinions from people who have actually used it, instead of carefully picked links to negative comments.

My understanding is, it's on the expensive side for the CPU specifications, but it works well. The good thing is that, unlike the A1 and classic PowerPC accelerators, it's actually available for purchase, so if you want to use Amiga OS 4.x, buy a SAM 440 ep.
