Where to get SCSI hard drives

Where's a good place to get reasonably priced 50 pin SCSI hard drives for the Amiga? I have a GVP 040 board with SCSI controller.

that would help :-)  I'm sure a lot of us have spare disks depending on what size you are after ?

I'm in Ohio. I'll take as big as I can get for a reasonable price. I would like at least 4-10 gig.

Thrift stores used to be a great place.  Unfortunately now, ppl destroy HDs to protct their personal info.  Most thrift stores stopped selling computers altogether.

I have had mixed results on e-Bay.  Quantum was the HD of choice for SCSI Macs, but they are out of business now. Many of the other brands have confusing configurations or are not as durable.

Are you aware of the OS requirements of HDs greater than 4 Gigs in size?

What part of Ohio do you live in?

I'm near Columbus.

I just ordered OS 3.9. Will it work with HD's bigger than 4 gig?

Well, I'd say in my attic, but postage would be probably much to high.

One tip I would like to give, although is have a look at Power Macs prior to the G3 versions. Great chance you can get them for a candy-bar  and you'll most probably be treated with internal ZIP drives and CD-drives as well. Only downside is you'd have to ditch the Apple afterwards.

I see SCSI drives on craigslist from time to time. You might look there. In addition to Mac stuff, you could look for old Sun gear. I bought a little Sun external drive that contained two 2GB scsi drives, with room for two more.

Invest in an ACard 7720U SCSI->IDE adapter and use old IDE hard drives upto 2TB.

You can find some decent deals on SCSI drives via EBay. I bought a 'set' of 2 9.1GB 68-pin drives for my Flyer, (listed as Sun workstation drives) $14.99 + plus shipping... don't forget you can get cheap 68- / 80-pin to 50-pin SCSI converters from EBay as well. The key with EBay is patience. If you need more than ~9GB the cost will be more, IME.

and another tip, is don't just search for "AMIGA". chances are you can get Scsi drives for much cheaper under "other" categories than in the Amiga searches. Sellers love to hose the Amiga market, saying its "rare" when chances are it is just a plain Scsi peripheral.
