DKB Wildfire Manual?
« on: January 17, 2009, 03:12:10 AM »
Greetings,

I recently became the second or third owner of a like new
DKB Wildfire 060 card.  I downloaded a .DMS of the install disk from one of the Ami hardware/driver sites, but have
not been able to locate a manual.

Does anyone know of a link to this in e-format, or if, in fact the card even shipped with a manual?

I'd be willing to to pay or trade for a scan or a  photocopy if someone would be willing to send to me.

Thanks for reading and any pointer to this doc!

According to http://www.cucug.org/amiga/amiinfo/reviews/Wildfire.txt it came with a "short and to the point booklet"
Sorry that's all I know of. The review in the above link might give you some useful info though.

Thanks very much for that pointer.   It sounds like it was
a very small doc, so no wonder it was misplaced before I got the card.  :-)

This section of the linked article...

"INSTALLATION

Plug in card with RAM, and reboot the computer."

... makes me think I ought to just make a backup, install and load the Wildifire disk and card and see what happens!

Is there anything on the disk that came with the card? (does amiga.resource.cx have the DMS?)

I've got a manual, since I've got the WildFire060 in an A200.  It's a 16 page manual + the cover.  The most important thing you need to know is that you need a KS 3.1 chip in your A2000 for the WildFire060 to work.  N.B.:  This card will let you connect natively to Ethernet 100.  The only native h/w Amiga card to do so.

Hi Rabbi,

All set with the 3.1 ROM here.

I am taking out a Tekmagic 2060 and putting in the
Wildfire.  Do the Wildfire's instructions call for
stripping out any existing accelerator's libraries/software before attempting the Wildfire060
install?

Thanks!

I couldn't find anything, but I think that it's a good idea to make a back-up of your Workbench partition (onto a CD, if you could).  I'd also move any duplicate or older versions of libraries to STORAGE directory, making the same directories those files were in.  Always be sure to use the VERSION ... FULL command on both what you think it the older version versus what you thing is the newer version of the file to ensure that you don't wipe out a newer version with an older version by accident.

I will try to scan in the manual this weekend for the Big Book of Amiga Hardware.

I think every 060 board uses its own 060 libraries that aren't necessarily interchangeable. Perhaps MMULib from Aminet could be used instead.

OK Rabbi, I'll run the WildFire installer in "to a log file" mode to see what is being laid down and where and be careful about the versions.  Excellent point,

If you do get a chance to post the manual to the BBoAH at some point, could you please post about its availability here on the Amiga.org forum?

Thanks again!
