Hopefully the price isn't too idiotic. Well it is, but it's not exactly unprecedented idiocy.

EDIT: Fixed link (Thanks mdrobert)

I suspect your link was cut short during copy & paste from another forum (probably due to vbulletin's silly link shortening routines). I think this is the correct one...

My A2000 with 060 was $500 delivered a couple years ago;the new Compaq laptop widescreen dual-core 2 gig ram 120gig HD ,wireless,etc.etc. at Radio Shack was  $499(plus taxes) last week.
Which was the better buy in computing power and usefulness?

The Compaq laptop was the better buy for computing power and usefulness clearly, but that's not what owning and using an Amiga is about is it.

The Wildfire is the only Amiga accelerator with DMA ethernet... :-o The TekMagic wins in a few benchmarks, but overall the Wildfire is a bit faster than the other 060 cards (particularly the Blizzard), even faster than cards for ZIII machines. (Granted, not by much. But still. ;-))

With the average cost of an A2K 060 card around $400-500, figure another couple hundred for the ethernet and "l33t" factor, plus the computer (a Rev 6 which looks to be in nice condition), and the BIN price is entirely realistic IMO.

Though I am perfectly happy with the TekMagic, had I known red would be getting a Wildfire I would have held out a while and spent the extra couple hundred bucks... Wildfire + PIV and deneb would make a seriously badass A2000.

A nice find indeed. Had this surfaced on eBay a couple years ago, I would have placed a few bids on it. With buying parts to build a GB A1000, I can't justify getting back into the 2000s at the moment. I still have a soft spot for the 2k since it was my first Amiga and my first computer.

Reserve price is about $100 below the Buy It Now price.

Some questions.  Was there finally an MNI driver made for Miami for the Wildfire's ethernet?  Even if not, Miami should be just as happy with the SANA-II driver.

A bad-ass box, no doubt, but would the extra speed from the CPU card make up for the slow Zorro II bus dealing with the PIV and USB?

Also, there are two PCI slots on the back of the card, one for a known video card.  How difficult is it to find the video card?

You know, there are several boards out there with some kind of local PCI bus -- the Wildfire, CyberStorm, and the PIV -- it seems like there would be some way to exploit one of those.  Something like the G-Rex or the CyberVision and the CyberStorm but, you know, with modern support.

Shoot.  If the PCI slots on the back of the Wildfire are Mini-PCI, then there could be a whole world of peripherals at our beck and call!  *sigh*  Though, wouldn't a PCI bus local to the CPU be faster than over Zorro III?

Ok, brain shutting off.  I'm wayyyy to tired right now.

IMHO trying to beef up a A2000 with 060 and a Graphics card is not worth the effort.  The Zorro 2 bus is seriously way too slow. Best bet is to spend money towards a A3000 or A4000 and go to town.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Yep, the 16-bit bus of the A200 chokes back communication.  Much better to expand A3000 or A4000

The Inferno is essentially unobtanium, I can't even find a decent picture of one. :-( According to rumors it does exist, and there are CGX drivers for it. The only practical advantages I can think of over the Phase5/GVP cards are DMA ethernet (no MNI driver AFAIK) and an overall slight performance boost at the same clock.

In regard to the Z2 bus - yes, this can be a bummer when the Z2 bandwidth is exceeded, but this isn't always the case. 1024x768x16 is plenty fast here, even with AfA eycandy on. (GFX benchmarks like P96Speed won't show a difference beween Z2 and Z3 at lower resolutions, either.) RTG scenedemos are nice and smooth, PIP stuff is fast (and resizing said window is fast), webpages that work well with IBrowse load quickly, scrolling through them is also fairly snappy (much faster than AGA). Ethernet is no problem with a fast CPU, the Z2 bus is still enough to handle most internet connections with room to spare.

Not to say Z3 isn't superior, quite obviously it is, and in some circumstances Z2 will limit performance. (If you're going to pick one machine to expand, the A3000/A4000 is a better choice.) However, for most basic use I've noticed little difference. As far as classic hardware goes, DMA ethernet (Wildfire is fastest ethernet on classic miggy), SCSI, and a good gfx card would still perform well overall, even with Z2.

I second -D- 's opinion. Zorro-II will only be a PITA if you have to use a Z-2 SCSI (or ,even worse, IDE) controller.

 Or Z-2 expansion memory.

 For expandability, stick with Zorro-3 Amigas (3 & 4k) or A1200+ MediTator.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
