Safely tweaking a Picasso IV (PIV for dummies..haha)
« on: December 30, 2008, 08:23:00 PM »
Hi,

Well since getting a Picasso IV, I've just used all of the default settings that were installed initially. I'm a real noob with this thing so please bear with me.....

I run my WB in pal and mainly use the A4000 for WHDLoad games and WB eye candy.  I tell my friends, "Yes, this is really and AMIGA!"

My question is that I have yet to understand the TNG program and its tweaks.  Are there any performance gains to be had by messing with it?

I've heard that TNG needs tweaking to correctly display PAL screens with the best flicker fixing.

Thanks all.... A dummies guide to PIV would be really cool if it existed!

Also...... I'm running a 24bit OS3.9 WB @1024x768 (A4000 68040-40mhz, CRT monitor and the wallpaper takes forever to load. Is this normal or is there a fix for this?

Thanks,
Tim

Wallpaper is probably being loaded into Chip Ram.
There is an option on Prefs/Workbench to set these Images to other Ram (Fast Ram) as Chip Ram has a higher priority for Images than fast ram @ default settings!
Large Images will suck a lot of Chip Ram unless you tell them otherwise & this will make your Amiga Chug a bit too!
I expect there is a way to get it loading earlier too, but I am not clued up on how to do this, sorry!

RE the PicassoIV, have a read here: Linky Poo Normally, the PIV will be @ it's best from the word go, unless someone has mucked up the cards basic settings of course.

Good Luck!

Kin

When I had my P4 years ago I recall doing a hack to overclock the graphx chip, but don't remember what it is.  Do you guys know how?  As you know the tooltype in the monitor file does not work...
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

It's restricted to just 10 MHz extra and did work for me AFAIR.

Thanks for the help guys!

Kudos to all of you (seems like the same handleful of people) willing to help out.... seems to be a lot of negativity and in-fighting on here lately, so thanks for the positive, helpful posts!

Having the layout set to "scale" in WBPattern prefs (even if the image is sized for your screenmode) will cause a *huge* delay before the backdrop pops up.
