Looking for PC equivalent of Deluxe Music Contruction Set 2
« on: December 23, 2008, 07:21:48 PM »
One of my favorite programs to play with was Deluxe Music Construction Set 2.0 on my Amiga 500.  It was easy to use, because I can put the music in the same way as it is on printed sheet music.  I didn't have to learn any crazy programming skills or anything.  All I had to do was put the correct notes on the screen and move it up or down octives until it was right.  The Amiga sound was great back then, but later I tired of the 4 channel sound limits and used MIDI out to my keyboards.

Today, I use a PC mostly.  I do have Amiga Forever to go back to those old programs I love.  I am looking for a program on the PC that I can use to create music in MIDI format in the same or similar manner that DMCS did it.

I'm also curious on something with Amiga Forever.  Can I use my MIDI out on my sound card with the emulator?  Can I still use DMCS on the emulator and output using the MIDI on my Audigy to control my keyboards?

You could try Notation Software, Inc., which isn't too expensive.

There's a free notation app called notepad. I think it's either made by Finale or Sibelius, not sure anymore.

There's probably plenty more out there.

I have a very old version of MidiSoft Studio that is almost an exact clone of DMCS 2.0..

I have seen it on shareware sites and heard it was discontinued but it's the closest thing to DMCS that you'll get..

Sibelius or Finale are the two main music notation programs out there these days.  They work in the same manner as what you described, and they use MIDI to communicate with other devices (you can save as MIDI as well).  They're both rather expensive programs, but I believe Finale has a cheaper version you might want to check out.
