under UAE at the speed of ~68030/25 ....
 :-P  :-o  ;-)
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

AmigaONE is a PPC motherboard without a 68K CPU. So you'll either need OS4 (which has 68K emulator built in) or UAE to have AmigaOS running on it.

Well, he's actually right...
The PPC version of UAE doesn't have the JIT-emulation that the x86 version has, nor does it have AHI or Picasso96 drivers; forcing more energy to be used on the emulation of the custom chips.
Beating the dead horse since 2002.

edit the UAE config file:

near the bottom there is an entry to map the linux dcdrom to UAE, change the protection bits from rw (read write) to ro (read only)

Then linux will stop trying to write to the cd.

1. Maybe, if you have PPC linux running on your A1 and you are installing PPC linux software.

2. Linux software usually works best if downloaded
from a repository with apt_get or RPM in red hats
case. Then it installs all the modules in the right places. (you hope)

3. DVD? i can't help you there much, probably requires editing some config files somehow
to have it show up.

I've just read the interview with Ben Hermans who says that OS4.1 is already in the pipeline, if so why not release OS4 and then 4.1 as an upgrade?

OS4.1 is in the pipeline, because some features which were/are planned will not make it into OS4 in order to make it arrive sooner. Work on those elements may have already been started I presume. I hope that clears it up.

Excellent idea!  I would love to see any working
version of OS4 released just to see it finally out.

It's mainly due to the fact that I don't like Debian Linux and I don't want to be using an emulator. I have hardly touched my AmigaOne since it arrived a month ago. :boohoo:

Debian Linux is not that bad, believe me. (Not that I booted it up since MPlayer is available for MorphOS, but it enables you to use MOL, Noatun, Mozilla, Opera, MPlayer, and a whole list of nae bad stuff, not to mention some decent desktop systems.  It just takes some patience and reading to get accustomed to it.)
