What the heck is that Microbotics item he has?  I'm not sure I've seen one and I couldn't find anything in the hardware database that resembled it...

I searched and can not find any info on that Microbotics A500 expansion. It may take someone a very long time to find the software/setup/support disk for it.

It might be just a RAM expansion like for the A1000, only sideways going so in can plug into an A500. Maybe Microbotics had those metal cases made so that they could use it either way and just plugged up the other hole. It kinda looks like there's a edge connector in the middle under where that slot is on the other picture so perhaps the insides are also made for wither A1000 or A500 use like how some cars have the possibility to have both right and left hand steering wheels.

I think it's the Starboard 2 with Stardrive expansion. I had one of those badboys for the A1000 but the case was different. I think maybe this is just the A500 version. And, apparently you can remove it from the case and put it in an A2000. Neat.

Look up the StarBoard for the A1000.  Thats the A500 version. I belive the stock starboard was 2megs of fastram when fully populated. The "upper deck" expansion board for it gave you the possibility of ANOTHER 2 megs (maybe even up to 8megs, I dont remember)..

That one has the "upper deck" expasnion and the SCSI expansion boards in place (hence the DB-25 on the back.)...

Also, those ASUS LCD shutter glasses look like they use the exact same plug that my X-SPECS glasses used. Those might be worth getting at that price.. I sold the X-SPECS for over $300.00 on ebay about 5 years ago..

I already scarfed up the GVP Impact Series II A500 HD+($40.00) and GVP DSS8 Sampler ($10.00) he had, so thats my "allowance" for the week..

But in my oppinion, ANY A500 SIDECAR is worth $25.00. I would not hesitate to buy that Microbotics Device, or any of the other "buy it now" stuff he's selling.. If nothing else, you could resell it on ebay for twice that.

I sold my Starboard 2 with 8MB RAM and without the SCSI expansion for something like $50, off ebay. I think if I snagged up this one and tried to resell it, it would take forever to get rid of like mine did until I lowered the price. I'd say people just go and buy it if they need it and not worry about trying to turn a quick buck.

I just bought the GrandSlam with 8 megs on it added a 550 meg hard drive for like 60 dollars off ebay. It works great, I also bought a supra drive for my other a500 but can't find the software and drivers for it so its sitting. Anybody know where I might find the software for it? send me an email please at lenigerk@gmail.com
Thanks

From what I read, you could have two starboards piggy backing each other.  What I'm curious to know is if you can have the star drive on one and the star port on the other.

Since they use the same port it is impossible to have them on the same card, but since you can hae TWO cards, why not have one on each???

Microbotics Starboard 2 for A500 HELP
« Reply #10 on: December 27, 2008, 10:08:19 PM »
OK guys, I am having trouble getting that A500 Starboard 2 working!  I get a flashing red LED on powerup and usually get a GURU.  If I turn off and reseat the card, and power up I get no GURU but there is no RAM or stardrive.device present.  It is fully loaded with 2MB too.  I suspect I need a AC adaptor as it has a port for it on the back...  Trouble is I do not know what volt adaptor to try!
