wanted: Commodore (64) 1581 floppy drive
« on: December 10, 2008, 04:56:30 AM »
I've decided to transfer some files off 5" disk. Looking for a 1581 to rig up to my system. Let me know if you have one for sale. Paypal standing by.

Sorry, not selling mine but have you tried to look for these 1581 kits? Includes everything but the drive mechanism, which you can cannibalize from a dead A500 (plug and play). I got one of those a couple of years back.
Here's one link, where to get them:

A4000/040 3.1/3.1, 2 MB Chip, 24 MB Fast, Piccolo SD64 2MB, GVP A2000mHC+8 Rev2, 4 GB CF HD via CF IDE
A1200 3.1/3.9, Blizzard 1230MkIV 030@50 with SCSI kit, 2 MB Chip, 128 MB Fast, 1 GB CF HD via CF IDE
A600 3.1/3.1, 2 MB Chip, A603, 1GB CF HD via CF IDE

1581 is not a 5.25" floppy drive, it is a 3.5" floppy drive.

Gotcha.
I have a couple rufurbished 1581 drives in the store. These 1581 disk drives have had their heads cleaned, drives aligned and fully tested. Price is negotiable, especially for sale outside of eBay. Make an offer.

Offer sent.

Edit: Buy it now price is way too high and my offer timed out.

*still* looking for a 1581. Watching one on Ebay but I have $100 standing by if someone wants to part with one. It's a floppy drive so I cannot justify paying any more than that. If no joy by end of next week then I will get one of those $50 kits and cannibalize one of my Amiga external drives.

Thanks for the offer. I managed to get one with the manuals, disks etc for just a little higher than my initial offer and much less than other people were asking.

I appreciate the reply though.
