Amiga PS/2 mouse-adapters...

Hi,

I'd like to be able to use a nice PS/2 optical mouse on my A1200, but the only way I can see to do this is via a Cocolino adapter, but these are far too pricey, IMHO...

Then I noticed this on fleaBay:

eBay - Amiga mouse adapter

I've asked the seller if it will allow the wheel functions on most mice to work, but he mentioned having to wire up the joystick port to the header-pins on the mouse adapter to get it to work...

Does anyone else have any experience with mouse adaptors and is there any alternative to the Cocolino?

(Cocolino: I always thought that was the name of an Italian porn-star!:-))

V3 is a new product, I've not used it yet. It supports Commodore 8bit and Amiga both. Chris Hodges of Poseidon fame will be writing the Amiga-wheel drivers.

A few months ago, we have bought the "Micromys" design from Marko Herold. We have continued development of the C64 mouse adapter, and we'll release it under the name "Micromys V3" during the first quarter of 2008. High compatibility with PS2 mice will remain, and USB-mice that support PS2 protocol are automatically switched to that mode. The new adapter can be configured for different target systems by DIP switches:
C64: 1351 proportional mouse emulation with wheel-extension
C64: Joystick emulation
Amiga: 3-button mouse without drivers
Amiga: 3-button wheelmouse with Freewheel-driver
Atari ST: 2-button mouse
Micromys V3 can of course be used on other retro-systems that use a 9-pin Sub-D connector for game controllers, such as Atari 8-bit machines, Schneider, Amstrad and MSX.

Sounds great.  I've been using a PS2 mouse (and keyboard for that matter) on my A4000 and it's a good feeling to know that if the mouse goes tits-up then all you have to do it drive to Walmart for a replacement.   :-)

Call me a skinflint, if ya like, but I was looking for something (even if I have to hack it together myself!) around the $AU20 mark... :-)

This one (landed in Oz) would work out around $65...

The sad thing is that a small run of well made products is going to cost a lot of money, but that $65 adapter will stay pay for itself over the years.

Just cut back on the grog for a week and you'll be able to pay for it.  ;-)

I can confirm I have one of these adapters bought from this seller on ebay, I can also confirm that wheel-scroll-action does not function.
However the adapter itself is very reasonably priced and works well without any software installation required.

Actually, I don't drink, but with 3 kids under 3 maybe I should start!

If Red should happen to put some of those adapters up on eBay, with a sensible starting price (hint, hint!), I might be tempted to bid.

I bought this adapter from the same guy some weeks ago.. It works sweet! I got mouse wheel to "work" with FreeWheel v2.1.

I need to press the mouse wheel and drag mouse down/up to scroll in Ibrowse (anywhere in the browser window). Maybe i havent configured it right, but this is fine for me now. Much easier browsing, hate to have to use the slider at the side..

Im not 100% it was Freewheel i used, i tried some others also in the progress http://aminet.net/util/mouse/FreeWheel.lha.

I will check in the morning when i get home
