A400D Intermitent Booting

Hi All,

I have a A4000D (tsandard 030 card) CV643D with Scandoubler, 2MB Chip 4MB Fast - 3.1 Roms.

I removed the battery and cleaned the board but now when I try and boot the machine, it boots some times but more often than not I get a black screen. Caps lock works, power led comes on, hard drive LED lights but then goes off (Hard Drive still runs though but LED not lighting). I've reseated the processor card and the daughter card several times. Has anyone got any ideas?

Also will the A4000D boot without the daughter card or does it need to be in place like the A3000D.

I had a small problem with one of my 4000Ds and removed the daughter card for testing - it booted without the daughter card.

Yep... A4000 boots ok without daughtercard.  Will hang on black screen much like you describe without processor card, though.  You might want to check that connector very carefully and make sure the contacts are all present, straight, and clean.  Also, you didn't happen to touch any jumpers while you were working, did you?

Thanks all. I`ll have another look at the processor card. I didn`t move any jumpers, but I`ll also check them just incase.
What I`ve noticed is if I leave the machine off for 5 mins or so it boots. If I switch it off and leave it for say less than a minute I get the black screen. Overheating component somewhere?

Is it possible to get these boards repaired? I`m not really up for doing it myself, so are there any repair shops that will?
