Bad News,Need a bit of encouragement
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:37:36 PM »
Greetings All.....

I got some bad news today, and I could use a little encouragement.....

I just found out this afternoon that they're closing my department (robotics engineering).  No transfer for me to another department is planned.  No other information was available....

I worked there 13 years (in Japan)....took them 30 seconds, using a junior supervisor...sigh

Sorry to hear that. No explanation ? Was it due to the global financial crisis ?

I think that's exactly what caused this crisis. And no, I can't give you any encouragement, but damn I wish I was able to. I'm at the point to finish my study, and I think I couldn't have chosen a worse time. :-(

All I can say is I wish you the best of luck.

I suspect we're all going to need it soon enough.
Blessed Be,

I'm terribly sorry to hear these news my friend. It's very unusual for a japanese company to put out staff like this. you know, the bond between a kaisha and kaishain is for life, at least that's what we the gaijin are told, I hope it's not a myth. Difficult times ahead indeed.
I believe in mt. Fuji

No explanation was given, but I am trying to get a better explanation.  I am guessing some sort of funding issue.
I still have until the end of March, so things could be a lot worse.  I was hoping to avoid a move back to the US from Japan, as I've been here thirteen years.   So much water has gone under the bridge since then.....

Pulling up roots is a bit like a visit to the dentist, you see...
But then again, things are often much improved after the treatment, so we'll see.  I'm looking forward to the future, though with a bit of trepidation (shakes ?...at 53 years of age, that's certainly a possibility....:-)

Anyone out there want a 53 year old systems engineer who works with the robots on the Discovery Channel ?...:-D

Sorry to hear about that, don't know what to recommend....except maybe the medical sector?
There is one thing that always needs equipment and that's the medical sector. They do have some exciting battlefield remote surgery units being developed, not sure if you could get into that.
There are quite a few medical robotic systems around, surely there must be some way in for you?

Makes me feel a little less likely to quit my job, even though I have been close to doing that for the last 6 months. Not having a good time of it, affecting my health, quite stressful etc.
