Amiga beauty pageant - how would you rate them?
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:25:46 AM »
Hi,

I was just looking at my A1200 next to a couple of A500s and thought how much better the A1200 looks - even today it's a smart, modern-looking machine...

Then I thought about the designs of the other Amigas, not including towers (universally pc-looking ugly!) or consoles...

Here's how I rate them, and this is based on aesthetics alone, nothing to do with the capabilities that lie under the skin!

1: A3000 (professional and sleek, the best!)
2: A1000 (simply a classic - almost No. 1!)
3: A1200 (modern, sharp lines)
4: A600  (as above, just smaller!)
5: A2000 (1500/2500) (a bit of a bulky tank!)
6: A500  (too big and squashed-looking)

... and the ugly-duckling award goes to the A4000 for looking like a cheap (and shoddily made!) Taiwanese 486 clone!

Pity we can't do polls on Amiga.org (or can we?), as this would be quite a fun one!

Cheers,

Mike.

An A2000 looks ever so sexy with an A520 sticking out the back.  ;-)

I'd put the A4000T near the top.
You missed out the CD32 - that would be at the bottom :-)

Rude!

Ugly towers? The A3000T is an absolute gem. Tall, sleek and absolutely solid.
A3000T, Cybervision64, CSMKII 060; A3000D, PicassoII, Z3 Fastlane; A2000D, 040, PicassoII; A4000D, A1200, Blizzard 030 MKIV  (not working - next project)

Mingle, you have been owned!

Oh & BTW...you never discounted the A4000T...you said "A4000"...so one would assume you meant the A4000D (it being the original A4000).  :-P

*EDIT* All desktop "wedge" Amigas are ugly as sin! Mine have all found new homes in rectangular cases...more space too!

I think the A500/+ is best. Both for looks and functionality. It's design means that you can easily store items on top. When mine was set up on a desk, it had the teletext adaptor, an external disk drive, a modem and joystick all sat on the flat bit.

I think the A3000T/4000T look more like radiators from the front than PC's, but they're still my favorite designs :-D
