Best alternative to WB3.1 "Ed" text editor?

Hi,

I'm trying to find a replacement for the (next to useless!) "Ed" command that comes with WB3.1...

I don't want a massive bells-and-whistles editor, just something simple that supports full-screen editing - maybe with find/replace and 'standard' windows-like CTRL-C/X/V

One look at the available files on Aminet and I'm at a loss of which to choose, so any opinions would be welcome!

GoldEd and CED are all pretty heavy duty text editors.  I use Jano Editor from aminet.

Nowadays I use OS4's own NotePad as my texteditor, on my A1200 with OS 3.0 I used (and liked) BlacksEditor, it was shareware at the time but it's now freeware:

I second CygnusEd as probably the best Amiga text editor of all time :-D

@mingle, Ed is actually a very capable editor, but I also find it a bit clunky for regular use. However, have you tried renaming S:Ed-startup to something else, say Ed-startup.orig, and running Ed again to see the menus? It's a lot more usable that way.

I noticed that emacs was available on one of the disks that comes wit the OS.  I know almost nothing about emacs.  But the menus made it a very serviceable editor to use in a pinch.

I was delighted to see that vim had been ported to the amiga.  Although I haven't tried it yet.

When I was still using my A2000HD, I used a nice little program called Write from the Amiga Appetizer package by Gold Disk. It was a fast and easy to use word processor program.

I used Ed for writing scripts and ARexx programs and Final Writer for heavy duty word processing.

I've tried out most of the ones you listed.

It seems to be the quickest to load, uses minimal RAM and has a great set of features, without being too overblown...

Highly recommended!

... now I can finally get down to giving my User-startup a good thrashing! :-)
