Can Amiga OS 4.1 on a Sam440ep board run 68k software

Forgive me for asking this if it has already been asked, I did search but found nothing. On youtube etc people do the usual show examples of the OS improvements but not actual software running.

If I was to purchase a Sam440ep board at some point and build an Amiga OS 4.1 system, can I run all of my Amiga software through a seamless emulation. This is not a loaded question, only I intend selling the Mac Mini which I purchased to try out and replacing with Amiga OS4.1 unit for potential development.

At present I use Amiga Forever on a fast PC which works well and I am experimenting with Aros but I am interested in what experience there is with OS4.1 and older software.

Amiga Forever runs really fast on my PC so I am curious if there is a benefit apart from obvious improvement in OS technology.

Older programs run by emulation under e-uae. Other 68k programs that use rtg and ahi can run through petunia, but older ones that bang the hardware can only be executed under emulation on e-uae.

68K software should run provided that it is system friendly. Anything that hits the hardware directly (such as most games) will have to be run in EUAE under full classic Amiga emulation.

One further question is, has any one tried to run Amiga OS 4.1 on the EFIKA systems, after all they are PPC as well. This looks like a good low cost tester system.

OS4.1 won't run on Efika and I don't think there are any plans for an Efika version.

While the Efika has a low price, there are a few downsides.  There only one 44 pin IDE which can't be split and you are pretty much limited plugging a 2.5" drive right into it.  If you want a CD/DVD drive or another HD they have to be connected to one of the USB 1.1 ports where they'll be limited to 1.5 Megabytes p/s.  There is no free PCI slot once you've installed a GFX card and 128MB Ram will soon seem like a tiny amount.

That said, having USB2 isn't really better if you don't have any ehci drivers for it.

On the Efika you won't need OS4 since you have MorphOS. :-)

But yes, if you want OS4 then your only option is the Sam. :-)

Software compatability
For both os it seems that OS3.x friendly software runs fine, even DPainIV and FinalWriter97!

But games that bang, needs e-uae.

Now, the hardware list might be faulty. But please remember that OS4.0 has only booted to KS screen on Mac Mini, and if someone gets it to boot to WB it´ll be an unsupported setup that might break any time on official updates.

Both MorpOS and OS4 are still being developed and officially supported.

My opinion is that if you want the most CPU, you´ll go for AROS which is x86, and no m68k emmulation at this moment, but it´ll give you access to the fastest hardware.

If you care about m6k software, like DPaintIV and FinalWriter, Civilization and Colonization, then you´ll go MorpOs, OS4.x or both.

Now AROS can also run m68k software, but that´s using e-uae and not fully integrated yet. It´s being worked upon.

My choice?

All three. I have an efika with MorphOS, plans for a SAM and a wobbly install of AROS

Really, I thought KS was as far they had come. Is that installed on HD and booting from it, or is it booting from CD or USB?

it has been installed in hd. i saw it live in an amiga event, and exactly this
has made me reconsinder the posibility to buy a macmini...
