Picasso IV & KickFlash4
« on: November 22, 2008, 06:02:11 PM »
This is really bugging me & quite bizarre. I have an A4KD with G-REX. PIV is in the bottom slot & Kick flash in the top most Zorro. All that is installed on the KickFlash4 is the OS3.9 ROM update. 3.1ROMS on board.

From Cold boot, in an instant, you get the Blue Screen showing KickFlash4 is done & then from there, the Power LED dims & blinks repeatedly meaning she's crashed. I can run the Miggy with Voodoo3, 8029NIC, Z3 Fastlane + 64Mb & the KF4 but as soon as the PIV goes in, this happens!?

I spoke to Jens about the issue & he is of the opinion I should be trying the PIV in another slot above the KF4. This means snapping off my PIV Flicker Fixer, which I'd rather not be doing & then shoving the KF4 in a slot lower than the PIV ZORRO board itself.
Apparently, there could be something wrong with the order call of the ZORRO slots from the 3.9KS ROM \!?/

Anyway, I just thought I'd ask in here as a matter of course. The PIV is a Rev 1.2 with 7.4 Firmware according to SysInfo.

Any info, however slight, would be greatly appreciated.  :-)

Sounds like the order call of the ZORRO slots from the 3.9KS ROM to me.

Sorry can't help you..

I also have problems with my Kickflash. I have an A4000 (with Apollo4040) with Towerhawk 7 slot bus board. And 3.0 real ROMs.
I tried flashing the Kickflash with 3.1 roms and 3.9 rom update. I can't get it to work (i removed the jumper on the card). But computer still shows the version number of the 3.0 ROMs. Do i need real 3.1 ROMs to be able to do this?

I dunno if this is helpful, but I have a PIV and a Kickflash living nicely together in my A4000T. The PIV is unsnapped and the Kickflash is in the second last slot.

I'll have to check to see exactly which slot the PIV is in.

The PIV is in Zorro slot 2 and the kickflash is in slot 4. The other three slots have DKB3128 cards.

Thanks X-ray. :-)

@ all:

I concur; Swapping around allows the KickFlash4 to work. I put the KF4 in the Zorro/Video Slot & the PIV in slot 2. It was the only other slot allowing the FF part of the PIV to go down the side of one of the PCI Slots & is now in free air. The G-REX Chipset fan blocks the gap between PCI & Zorro on the last 2 Zorro Slots. I just don't wanna snap the PIV!

Might revert back to DCE FF/SD & just the Voodoo.

Before I do though, is it possible to Hex the kickfile in order to change the order of the Zorro Addressing or could it be done via a script file or something from the KickFlash4 on cold boot?   :-?

This is the second major issue I have had with the KF4. The first one was the KF4 NOT liking the 128Mb of EDO Ram on the CSMKIII? - As soon as I installed 128Mb of Page Mode 72pin SIMMS, the KF4 was fine!? :-?
That one was a total b!tch to discover!
