WANTED: A1200 (rev. 1d1)
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:10:05 PM »
Been checking on AmiBay, but no joy.  :-(

Must be a 1d1 board because i want to use my Apollo 1240.

Boards with the timing fix may also do, but i`m pretty paranoid about DIY hacks.  :-)

Preferably no yellowing on keyboard and case. (I should be so lucky)

Are the New-Old-Stock A1200s rev. 2B? how easy is it for the timing fix to be done on them?

endCLI

Can the revision mobo be checked by software without opening of the case? I have a really nice A1200 for sale (that does not have timing issues with my PCMCIA stuff) and I know for a fact it has the Commodore Lisa chip as the Indivision AGA card snapped on like a champ. Just don't want to have to open it up again. My A1200 is listed here and on AmiBay. Likely one of the cleanest, non-yellowed systems you'll ever see. And it's even a PAL mobo...

Is it definately a 1D1 board that works ok with the Apollo? Reason I ask is I have one and my Apollo 1240 doesnt work very well with it. I bought the 1240 second hand and it sort of worked for a bit but it locked up a lot (I have plenty of cooling on it and the PSU is an AT PC MOD) but now the system wont start with it connected. My Blizzard 1230 works like a champ tho on the same board. It may be my Apollo thats knacked but I suspected the main board / timing.

@twizzle

a lot of Commodore-made 2Bs like, apparently, yours and mine had the fixes made before getting to retail stores, so, in practice, it shouldn't be any different to 1D1 revisions.

Escom 1D4 (factory fixed) also works fine with the Apollo cards. Make sure you have juice going to the floppy connector, otherwise it may not boot or act flaky/crash when it's cold.

So, are the New Old Stock Escom A1200 Magic packs that Analogic are selling fixed 1d4 boards that will work ok?

Can any techs clear this up catagorically before I spend the money and buy one.

Thanks in advance.

My apollo 1260

Was unstable with Commodore 1D4 motherboard.
then I got a 1D1 from Amigakit.
Even with that board it was unstable.

So I did a timing mod on the 1d4 motherboard.
And now it rock solid :)

So. in the end, you just have too try with your Apollo and the motherboard you have.

If you are lucky you are up and fly without any problems or..

@Tension

Seems it may depend. :/ Mine (which I purchased new) always worked flawlessly with any expansion I threw at it. It wasn't until I had the board out for other reasons that I discovered it was already "fixed". Anyway, if necessary it's a pretty simple procedure to mod a 1D4 board (just remove 2 SMT caps, details here.) I haven't run mine with a PCI expansion, but I've had an overclocked Apollo, IDE-Fix Express, Prelude clockport card and PCMCIA wireless card all working together just fine.

Yep I've also got an 1D4 and no timing probs to report.
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

My original A1200 which I've had from new is a 2B with the double sized clockport. It was completely useless with the Apollo 1240/40 I bought new at the 1999 Cologne show. Lucky for me my friend had a spare A1200 he'd picked up from a junk shop for £5! It came with an overdrive hdd as well! I borrowed it from him and it worked fine. I think it was a CBM 1d4 but I can't be 100% certain, it was some years ago and that machine is currently missing...

I have a 1d4 motherboard for sale that used to be in my BlizzardPPC tower setup. Worked fine with that, should be ok with the Appollo if that's any use.

Cheers,
Rudi.

Cheers Rudi, but im looking for a complete a1200 in a wedge case, i`m sick of towers and such.

It`s back to basics for me. :-)

Yeah, have to agree with you on that. I prefer everything small and compact these days. The only classic Amiga's I have now are wedge case ones.
Good luck finding what you want.

Cheers,
Rudi.
