I always consider the 1084S to be the official monitor of the 500 and 500+ (and 600 for that matter)

The A1200/4000 I find the 1942 the official monitor

This is the one I like most :) What are the numbers behind the 'S' for this model? Because as I said there are many variants of the 1084S!

Thanks again,

I personally did a small research on this. My opinion is that the Commodore 1084 is the most official monitor for the A500+. However there are so many versions of it!! and I cannot figure out what the differences are and which one of these versions is mostly related the A500+ (since if I am not wrong it was also available for the A500).

I agree that the 1084 series is the definitive "Amiga 500/500+ monitor."  There isn't really a specific revision that is "more correct" than another, though.  As far as I know, no Amigas were packaged by Commodore with a monitor included.  The package deals were put together by the independent 3rd party vendors who usually just included whichever 1084 variant they happened to have in stock at that time.

The "D2" probably would have been selling around the same time as the 500+. They all essentially perform the same, though some of the earlier 1080/1084's with Japanese tubes might have a slightly better picture.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I made a quick search on eBay and the price is not that high, however shipping is too much. I will wait to see if something in the UK or other parts of Europe becomes available and check what the shipping costs would be.

Thanks again,

Don't know for sure, but I had a "D2" and it was the "White" color of the A1200, not the beige color of the A1200.  Which is why I got that one.  The D1s of the day were that darker A500 color.  Don't know if all D2s are A1200 white though.

That's right - I forgot the 500+ was still beige. (Now that I think about it, I recall the "D2" being released with the A600, while the 1942 was for the A1200.)

A cheap saisho TV from Dixons.

Well, that'w what I had back in 91 ... Seeing as most people I knew never bothered with a monitor and used a cheap TV I think that makes it official.

My Commodore 1081 is still hooked up to an VCR as Monitor via the "Euroscart AV" at its back...

Hi Sorry to bring this up again... but had another question!

If I buy a 1084s monitor then what will the picture quality be? Will it be something like this:

http://www.amiga.org/gallery/photo.php?lid=2533&cid=1
(Amiga.org site in the background image is very pixilated)

or will it be better? If it is like the above then would there be any way to improve it?

Thanks and Regards,
Sim085

It'll be that resolution...  It'll look like looking at that picture through a television, though.   There's some good and bad to that.

The good news is that the pixels really smooth out in the glow of the CRT, and that resolution doesn't look bad, at all on that size of device.

The bad news is it would be flickering.  a lot.  640x400 NTSC interlace and 640x512 PAL interlace are NOT easy on the eyes for any length of time.

You won't be looking at it close enough to see the pixelation.  You'll be saying "OW!  MY RETINAS!  THEY BURN!"

So considering I have an A500+ can I do anything to solve the flickering? I saw on eBay some flicker fixers but do not know if they are related!

Dealing with same problem, I decided to wait and see if Jens releases OCS/ECS version of new Indivision SD/FF. That would eventually bring display isseue close to full resolution.

No need for flickerfixers or anything! You can do what I did if you have an ECS amiga (500+): buy an Amiga 1438 monitor (or a Microvitec 1438, it's the same) and use HighGFX from aminet. You can have resolutions up to 1024x768 (with flickering) or 1024x384 WITHOUT flickering which is quite acceptable I believe! But remember, this can be done only with an A500+, not with an A500!
