What is the official A500+ monitor?
« on: November 19, 2008, 09:03:31 AM »
Hi,

When my A500+ came to my family it came without any monitor. At first we connected the A500+ to our television set and after that we connected it to an older Amstrad CPC 464 monitor through an RGB converter. Now I was thinking to actually buy a monitor for my A500+ however I do not know what was the (sort to speak) the official monitor for it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks and Regards,
Sim085

I personally did a small research on this. My opinion is that the Commodore 1084 is the most official monitor for the A500+. However there are so many versions of it!! and I cannot figure out what the differences are and which one of these versions is mostly related the A500+ (since if I am not wrong it was also available for the A500).

Thanks for your reply,

Amstrad CPC 464 monitor will give you a blurry image compared to a good old commodore 1084s.

Commodore 1084s is fine for an A500, they are perfect for games (or watching TV using the TV modulator).

Anyway, if you live in Europe perhaps you'll have more fun using a SCART cable with your TV. It provides better picture quality than connecting trough antenna cable.

IIRC I owned a 1084S-D2, I think it was produced by Daewoo and supported 70Hz screenmodes

i started off with a 1084s that looked the same as the 1081 on amiga hardware book, just it didn't have the scart port and had a 1084s badge on the front.
one of the colour guns died, and i sent it off for repair. but commodore being commodore, didn't repair it, but sent me a new 1084s with a more curvey case and a power light like the amiga's power/drive lights. plus i've seen this monitor outside the UK with an "amiga" badge as opposed to the commodore badge... so i guess this was as official as it got. :-)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

The 1084s image on amiga-hardware.com is different then the one on the link provided - I guess as you suggested there where different models of the same type.

Also what do you people think of the 1084s-D1? Or this came later then the A500+ (I do not know why I like that one more then the curvy 1084s).

1084S is the best monitor for playing games in any Amiga. I have one since 1991 and still working flawwlessly. 17 years!!! Can you stay with the same monitor 17 years without going for service? Hehe...  8-)

Are you trying to say you have acceptable offers for each ever produced version ?

A while ago, I was damn close to import a Philips CM8833-II, but shipping costs killed the deal.

Yes, but it was not stereo, and it was not a video monitor too.

I still have two of them. When We started selling video toasters we used them for program and preview out monitors.

I always consider the 1084S to be the official monitor of the 500 and 500+ (and 600 for that matter)

The A1200/4000 I find the 1942 the official monitor
