amiga 1240 accel on amigakit

Dear Friends:

I noticed an amiga accelerator 1240 for amiga 1200 on amigakit. It states on the site that it is intended for a 'spacious and well powered amiga as such is a tower'.
Is it possible to use with a regular amiga 1200 desktop?
What are the pros and cons? will it run too hot? will it work fine? do i need to keep the trapdoor open?

The Apollo 1240/1260 cards can be run in a desktop, but only with 32MB RAM (2nd SIMM hits keyboard), and there isn't much room for cooling since the CPU faces up. I use one of these, and a quiet 40mm fan next to the CPU, with a small shroud to channel the air sideways. Almost silent, and keeps it very cool.

DOH! Amigakit is actually selling the Blizzard, don't know why I was thinking Apollo. Anyhow, no problem with the Blizz in a desktop case, but you'll have to keep the trapdoor cover off and raise the computer off the desk a bit (CPU faces down). 128MB on the card is possible.

I just glued two fans in mine and stuck them on the 5v, a gpu fan and an old cpu fan, theres a lid thingie by the back of the accel, with a gpu fan you can just about clear the keyboard, the 040 runs hotter though.

Holy crap. Can't you buy an A4000 on ebay for that much?

Or  heck...even a sam for a couple hundred more...

That price is like a punch to the stomach. If processing power is what you need go to geeks.com for the same price buy a fully functional PC desktop and run UAE on that. At least you can browse the web in Safair or Opera if you loathe Microsoft...

I like my A1200 but that much for a few more mhz over a 50 mhz 030 ain't worth it. Guess if you're a hardcore fanatic then ok... wow... :roll:
