Will a CD32 joypad work correctly with a Amiga 500\1200 and c64? Are they compatible? I know maybe all 4 buttons wont work correctly on the C64.

Great with any amiga, dunno about the c64. Would think so becuase C-64 sticks work fine with Amigas. Even a Sega Genesis pad works fin on an Amiga.

I had a 'Honeybee' CD32 joypad and it worked fine on my A1200 (although the extra buttons didn't work in 'normal' games). I see no reason why basic left/right/up/down + fire shouldn't work on an A500 or C64.

No, no, NO!

Never use a Genesis/MegaDrive pad with an Amiga. Yes the sockets are the same, but it can fry one of the internal chips.

As for using CD32 pads with the 500/1200, I don't know. It should work as I have regularly used my CD32 pads with my A600's (before they broke last year).

If you wish to use other control pads with a C64 I suggest you search for the SX64. If I remembered correctly, thats the name of a new cool piece of tech that (depending on which unit you buy) will allow you to plug in NES, SNES, MegaDrive/Genesis, PS2 and a few other console pads into your C64! :)

I used Sega Genesis pads for many years. Now I use a Playstation adapter which emulates the CD32. Is this true that the use of Sega Genesis can fry the Amiga chips?

I've used a Genesis pad for years with no problems also. Swap 2 wires and all the buttons work (instead of 2). Hired guns used these 3 button Genesis pads and told what lines to swap. No mention of being bad for chips either.

If Genesis pads aren't supposed to work with Amigas then why do some games support the extra buttons on a Genesis pads?

i've used a six button pad with my A500 for years with no modification... maybe i just got lucky?  :-? but a Cd32 pad will work fine with all other amiga's. just get a copy of lowlevel.library to allow games that can understand  cd32 pads to be able to use all the extra buttons.
i use a playstation to CD32/amiga adapter on my a1200. and i've only got one honeybee CD32 pad left :-( i had four at somepoint. no idea where they've gone...

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

I think one of the extra buttons, when pressed, bridges a signal to a ground pin on the Amiga.  I suppose if you're very unlucky that could damage a CIA, but I've never heard of that actually happening.  (Of course, CIAs are probably a bit more fragile now after they've aged 15-20 years...)

Sure, swap lines 5 & 7...

http://psygnosisamiga.free.fr/games/hiredguns/instructions2.pdf

The 3rd button (A) will then be readable by any Amiga programs that support the 3rd button and is easily read in an OS friendly way. Unfortunately, not many games supported it. The CD32 pads work some magic to get more than 3 buttons and the Genesis pad 3rd button is not equivalent to any buttons on the CD32 pad.
