There's also lots of good antivirus progs on Aminet.  VirusZ,
VirusCheckerII and VirusExecutor are some popular ones.
Not sure if they'll all run under OS 1.3 though.

Unless your A500 has a hard drive attached to it, it can't store
a virus as everything in memory is erased when the power is turned
off.
So it would be a matter of going through your disks and virus checking
them all.

That's what VirusX does, checks floppies. What e'll do is telnet it over from my A to my PC and then send it to you. Oh yeah, my A1000 also has OS 1.3, so ital work on your 500.

If I check all my disks and do something to infected ones, the virus has been eliminated? Viruses can get from disk to another only when i change disks without switchin power off. Am I right? I don´t have hd

I'm sorry I'm taking so long. I haven't had access to a computer which I can telnet to. I will keep trying though. :-)

Hi....

If there is OS 1.2 or 1.3 in that A500, you have to use a program like "VT-Schutz" (The German killer). The other ppl talks about a program called "VirusX", dont use it, it is outdated, and can only find around 25 viruses. A program like "VT-Schutz" can find well over 700 viruses, and is the only program that will work under OS 1.2 or 1.3.

If your A500 has OS 2.0 or higher, you can use VirusZ, VirusExecutor or Mill. But remember to have the newest xvs.library (ExternalVirusScanner.Library) installed.

U can find all these programs at the Virus Help Team's websites www.vht-dk.dk

Please all, dont use outdated antivirus programs, U have no protrction at all....

Kind Regards...

Good point, if it's a relatively new virus, then the older anti-virus
software may simply ignore it.

Some virus could get transfered between disks if you insert them into
the A500 without resetting it first.  Of course it depends on the
virus type.  Some migrate (spread) very easily while others don't.

The best thing to do is use a current virus checker on a higher end
computer to find out exactly what kind of virus it is, and if possible
let it remove the virus from the disks for you.

You also have a good point there, with checking disk's and software on a Amiga with OS2.0 or higher, that is absolutly right !!!

But if you write-protect your disk's the viruses cant be spread (unless you have a HD).

But in the Amiga world, no new viruses has been found for over a year now, and let us hope it stays that way.

You are all more that welcome to check out antivirus website for more information. Virus Help Team's Website

Okay... Cu all...

Kind Regards...

@vht-dk
Hey, you must have a fair collection of virii ,now...

Anyway, i just got to thank you for getting rid of a nasty polymorphic one , that changed the mount command and infected hundreds of files, ( in an hour! ).

i had a back-up anyway.

Forget the name of it ( i wish i had a specimen...).

Thanks.

Hi m8 !!!

Oh yes, We have about 99.5% of all Amiga viruses in our collection. And that this time only the Virus Test Center in Hamburg, Germany and Virus Help Denmark has this big a collection, but it is in safe hands, no one can get hold of them  :-D   I have my collection on two ZIP disks in a bank-box   :-P

Oh yes, some viruses are very bad, and are very hard to make a 'cure' for, but so far the antivirus programmers has been able to do all of them. And please all remember, that every antivirus program for the Amiga is FREEWARE, non of the antivirus programmers are getting monney of doing this. And they all have fulltime work, next to there antivirus programming. A man like  Georg Hoermann - VirusZ has been around for well over 13 years, and are still programming for the Amiga. Nice eh.... ????

Kind regards
