« on: November 12, 2008, 01:06:27 AM »
Hi,
I have a lot of good 720kb disks and I was using this way to transfer files from XP machine to my 2000 . I know it worked a wile ago and now all I get is 1.44 to format option. I realy need this to help transfer files any Ideas? I have  1200 also but no CF card reader yet for it.

Use WinImage in the Windows XP. WinImage is a classic PC format program that I used for more than 13 years. Format options have other rare options (1.68Mb etc.).

format a: /f:720

should also work.  I've used it in the past but, admittedly, it's been a while.

Xanaa: I can say that tabuhuso's idea worked quite well for me. There is a guide somewhere (Aminet, or somewhere) that mentioned this. I tried formatting disks on my XP machine via the command prompt, I could not get these disks recognised on my Amiga. I had to format the disks on my Amiga first to transfer files....
Note well, for me, I had a very high disk failure rate with disks that were used extensively to transfer between PC and Amiga, the disks were only useable for a week or so, I had read that this is due to some XP 'quirk' (disk cache, or something) As always, YMMV...
(Of course, if your XP machine has a CD burner, you could just focus on getting a CD-ROM for your Amiga...)

Never use the disks on amiga and pc.  best to keep them only on amiga use.  Going back & forth can create "bad disk" symptons.

This has never worked with XP. Tone007 was right:

format a: /t:80 /n:9
