Cyber Storm MK-II problems
« on: November 10, 2008, 04:53:15 PM »
Hello i have a cyberstorm MK-II cpu card, and a amiga 4000.

Recently i started to get some gurus when i boot the machine, they get worst now.

So if i press firmly the cpu card on the board the gurus disappear.

Someone have a tip to fix this ?.

What is the best way to clean the cpu card connector pins.

.

Do you have those little plastic pins that goes between the motherboard and the CyberStorm to support it?
Theology is just a debate over who to frame for creating reality.

Yes they are in place.
I have now discovered another thing.
If i press hard con the cpu and turn on the machine (not stoping to pressure it) the machine boots fine.
If not i get a guru at startup.
I think i have a cold solder joint at the cpu socket.

 :getmad:

i think my 4000 is out of luck now.

I remember reading about a similar problem where a member's motherboard had warped. If I recall correctly, the answer was to remove a couple of mobo screws and put a bit of folded paper under the board beneath the CPU slot, so as to compensate for the warp.

Do so at your own risk though mate :nervous:

Thanks for the tip  A4000_Mad i'm going to give it a shoot.
But i almost sure that the problem is in the actual 68060 cpu socket not the motherboard cpu slot.

The cpu socket seems to be duble side, and it's imposible to get to the solder joints in the top face of the board (under the cpu black plastic socket).

If someone have expirience doing this kind of repairs plase help !!!.

If my cpu board this i'm out of the amiga scene i think  :-?

To prove it's the CPU socket, Turn the amiga on without pressing the CPU. At the point where the GURU comes up, press the CAPS lock key at a constant pace. It should go on, then off, then on then off then on. If the CPU socket is dodgey, you will loose control of the CAPS lock key light. Obviously, if the LED on that key stays on or off, the CPU has stopped responding. If the Miggy boots fine with pressure on the CPU itself, then yes, there is every chance your socket needs re-working.

Please be absolutely 100% sure the Mobo & CSMKII connectors are pressed firmly together & if this persists for you, then you really need to Email this guy at the bottom of this page:

Anthony Hoffman

I had these same symptoms on a CSMKIII & A.H. repaired it & for a very reasonable price too! Good luck m8!   :-)
