AEHD Floppy drive issues...
« on: November 10, 2008, 03:02:42 PM »
Hi #?

I recently bought an Applied Engineering HD external floppy drive... the drive works with DD floppies but I can't make it read/write/format any High Density ones.

Do you have an idea of what could be wrong? Could it be the drive is not entirely working somehow? Are there any drivers for these drives one could share please?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers

Do you have the special AEHD device driver loaded that came on the floppy disk with the drive? If I remember correctly it won't work in high density mode without it. Also, the High density mode is an emulation of type, in that it will actually show two floppy drives in Workbench... One drive is the first 720k and the other is the next 720k giving you the total capacity of the high density disk that you are using... Hope this helps...

The only floppy drive disk "floating around" is the XL drive, from Power computing...
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I may have the .adf around here somewhere, but...

The driver provided by AE happens to work with WB1.x ONLY. This is because they (AE) didn't feel the need was there to update the driver to work with the newer trackdisk.device and cross-dos compatibility.

Like the actual Ami HDFDs, AE had to "fiddle" with things to get the HD mode working, and that went to heck in a hand basket when WB2 was released. Looking back at the sales figures, AE decided that the Ami user base was too low to spend time and money re-writing the code to get it working.

That said, it's one nice little 880K drive. Send a PM if you need the .adf and are still using WB1.x (unless there's still some claim to copyright/trademark/patent by AE).
