Did I cross the line?
« on: November 08, 2008, 10:45:21 AM »
This is an email I sent to an amiga dealer:

Quote

Hi,

I take your silence as a sign that you have no intension of delivering. In a mail the 8th of August you said that it would go out on monday the 11th, It´s now more than three months later, and all you have to offer is silence.

I will await an answer from you until tuesday morning my local time here in Norway. If I haven´t heard anything definite until then, I´ll have no choice but to post warnings to other users about you on amigaworld.net and amiga.org

Regards,

Arnljot Arntsen

PS: This is the "you suck" letter.

I initiated the deal with him on July the 5th, and on august the 8th he made a tentative promise for delivery. After October the 27th it´s just been all quiet...

The "you suck" reference goes to something he said in a mail the 25th of August:
Quote
I just want to make really sure before I send it out and I get a it locks up and you suck letter.

Well, this is all very well as a warning, but only really of use if we know which dealer it was.

New Avatar?

I will give him until tuesday as I said in the e-mail.

It´s been more than 20 mails between us, and always at my initiative. So each time hes hit a snag, I only find out about it after inquiring why it´s taking so much time.

On 25th of September was the last time I heard from him, then he said that all of his classic equipment had "melted down".

After then I sent two mails to him, on 30th of sept and 27th of October. And then the mail quoted below.

And all I get is silence, so it seems that you´ll know on tuesday. Because all I´ll accept is a tracking number for a parcel with my two items in.

Yep :-)

I believe that wherever possible these matters should be resolved privately, so I respect you keeping to your "by Tuesday" ultimatum. And given the amount of times you say you have had to chase the seller, I think that is fair. But I do think that there comes a point where other potential buyers need to be warned.

I vote for name and shame ... and I might be doing something very similar in the near future as one of my ebay deals has gone sour.

It pains me to do this. But I see no other alternative.

This is the email exchange which leads me to conclude that it's not safe to deal with Revanche LLC:

Quote

First email I wrote to Kurt 5th July 2008:
Hi,
I´ve found two very usefull products on your webpage, and I´d like to know if they are still available:
*RAKA Keyboard adapter
*RAMA Mouse adapter

If they are, I´d really like to place an order for these two items, preferably by paying with PayPal (I´d happily pay any extra  transaction fees incurred by PayPal)
My location is 0660 Oslo, Norway (for calculation of shipping charges). Also, are there any special considerations to make since I´m in Norway and would like to use a keyboard with norwegian layout.

Quote

Kurt to Arnljot 8th of July 2008:
Dear Arnljot,

Sorry we missed your call. Most of the staff is off this week. We have both the RAMA and RAKA .
The problem we have is the new chips don't work with the old hex code and the original source for the European chips was lost during a succesion of hard drive failures. If you would be kind enough to send us a Norwegian keyboard we can test our new european source code with your keyboard. We would reduce the price of the keyboard adapter to $10.00 and install any custom macros you want. We would then return your keyboard with your order. Shipping to Norway $37.50 +RAMA 38.00
+RAKA $10 = $85.50 Delivered.

Thank You.

Sincerely,

Arnljot to Kurt 8th of July 2008:
Wow,

Thats a good offer. I'll go and get a keyboard this week and ship it to you. It'll be cheaper (postage wise) that you just keep the keyboard.

Is the product also compatible with keyboards that connect via USB-2-PS2 dongle, or does it have to be a pure PS2 keyboard?

Can I then pay with PayPal?

If we agree on the terms (PayPal $85.50 + Norwegian keyboard), I will send one to you as soon as you give the go-ahead.

I assume I'll use the address on your homepage.

Okay that means postage is now $28.00 for Express which is 5 days or $15 for priority 6 - 10 days.

Yes it works fine with USB 2 PS2 dongles that is a function of the keyboard not the adapter most chips used in keyboards is the standard dual

Yes the address is revanchellc@revanchellc.com

Yes but you now need to figure in the cheaper postage
$76.00 plus keyboard. for express
or $63.00 for Priority

Goody, I sent a keyboard to you today. It ended up being sent registered, as oddly enough that was the cheapest. It's not been registered in the database yet, but I guess it'll pop up one of these days:

Hi,

FYI, I can now see that the tracking on the keyboard is updated. Can you also confirm that you have received the payment of $63 as we agreed and that we're on track?

Kind regards,

Dear Arnljot,

Important question for which Amiga do you want an adapter for, A2000/3000/4000/CD32, A1200/A600 or A500 or A1000

Sincerely,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,
I can now see that you´ve received the keyboard. Does it work to yor satisfaction?

Kind regads,

Kurt to Arnljot 6th of August 2008
Dear Arnljot
Yes we received the keyboard it will work fine. the only issue I have is it has only one windows key. I normally map the windows keys to the left and right Amiga keys. This keyboard has no right Amiga I can map the menu key to right Amiga Key for you. I normally map the menu key to right Amiga M  combo so one button swaps the screens. I find it to be an indispensable function once you get used to it it is fantastic on the Amiga. F11 is copy and f12 is paste. Some programmers prefer cut over copy. Attached is the normal instruction sheet. I map the extra function keys to any two button Amiga combos so you can map that key to special functions in any program or you can use Fkey to have it open your browser or email programs or run arexx scripts.  If you want any of those keys mapped to something special that your program uses let me know.

Sincerely,
Kurt

Arnljot to Kurt 6th of August 2008
Hi Kurt,
Please map the menu key to right Amiga key. I will just make another mapping in software for R-Amiga-M.

Also, I assume that with the following setup:
Keyboard - KVM - Adapter - Amiga
That Sroll-Lock key combos to switch computer still will work?
Kind regards,
Arnljot

Kurt to Arnljot 8th of August 2008
Dear Arnljot,

"That Sroll-Lock key combos to switch computer still will work?"

Yes as that how I use the adapter now on a Belkin 4 port KVM.
Both the keyboard and mouse adapter are designed to work on a KWM as I have owned and tested many KVMs with them and up to now all have worked perfectly.
They should go out on Monday baring any mishap.

Sincerely,
Kurt

Much more testing to do now on the adapters?

Kind regards,

Kurt to Arnljot 25th of September 2008
Dear Arnljot,

I was supposed to email you the other day. We have not forgotten you we had some major and minor disasters in the last month that delayed things. My A1200 I use for testing and programing classic stuff melted down. Literally melted a short in one of the Chip Ram modules melted the traces off the motherboard. Combined with other things like  the companies main system dieing. A minor flood after which happened after the computer malfunctions and other unrelated problems. I got a new A1200 board I need to install and  test before I get back.

Sincerely,
Kurt

Thats my fault sorry. To answer your question Yes we have every intention on delivering your product.
In redoing the code I started adding features in to take advantage of the new features and memory in today's chips.
I will send you out an international using the old design and then forward you one of the new ones when it is done.

Sincerley,
Kurt

So please ship me the items and provide me with a tracking number so that I can see that it´s sent.

Good,
Though please give me a timeframe for when you will post the first shipment to me.

Regards,

As you can see from the trend here. All communication is on my initiative. It seems like Kurt of Revanche LLC would rather that this whole thing was forgotten and gone.

Even though he said he'd ship me a unit the 10th of November, and I specifically stated that I wanted a shipping number. All these requests have been met with silence to that point.

Also, notice that the device was done the 25th of August and just a few more days of testing was needed. No mention of this later, only that he decided to start all over again.

I don't find his communication trust worthy, and 10 days of ignoring my emails after I have asked him to deliver and keep me posted is alarming.

I consider the $63 I paid as lost
(PayPal the 9th of July Currency Conversion: 330.24 NOK = $63.00 USD)

And the money spent on a Norwegian keyboard (NOK 359 Logitech EX 110).

And also the money I spent to send the keyboard to USA by registered mail. Another 200 to 300 NOK...

It's a shame.

I really think that at one point this deal was over board. But something has happended which makes him unable to fullfill his end, and instead of saying so out right he's been stringing me along.

I feel cheated.

I also had problems dealing with RevancheLLC.

Like you, I ordered a RAKA keyboard adapter (europian version).

After they send a faulty one, they promised to send me a new one. They also told me it was a problem with the firmware, and that the backup disc with the firmware source code was corrupt, or something like that.

I waited for half a year, and then gave up. They didn't even respond to my emails anymore.

After that, I vowed to never ever order something from them again.

Long after I made the mistake of ordering the RAKA, I read this thread at amigaworld.net.

It almost made me puke.

When was this, I wish I knew that before I dealth with them.

It might have saved me a lot of money. Not blaming you though :) It's just so frustrating to still be w/o that adapter. I'd really set my mind on those adapters too.
