Last weekend it was publically demoed at Bad Bramstedt, e.g. a  1080p h.264 video fluently replayed by Mplayer was shown. It was also said to get rolled out as soon as possible, but there's no estimation *which* date it may be.

Hmmmm ... I don't mean to cast doubt on what might have been demo'd, but what bitrate was that 1080p clip ?  and was it truly 1920x1080 resolution ?

Cause my old G4 Mac Mini never came close to playing proper 1080p video files.

But it also depends on availability of developer maschines...

I have to quote Frank Mariak here:
Don't count too much on some notebook support, at least don't hold your braeth for that - you may risk to suffocate.

Quote

What do you mean by that? It depends on some bounty system for hardware, or what?

If you have a spare iBook or such, you may ask if it would be helpful to provide it as developement maschine. AFAIK hardware is generally welcomed, but 1st thing to do is ask on #morphos if it is of any help.

the only problem I see is that most macmini's had 32mb vram, and only the last models had 64mb vram, which is not enough.

I know my efika at 1680x1050 with 128mb vram on a radeon agp card has some shearing/tearing... I dont even know if 1680x1050 would even work on 64mb ram let alone 32mb vram...

The mini's were close in design to some of the older powermacs so that might be a better option to get one of the mirror door, etc models that you can replace the gfx card...

Morphos for G4 towers would be nice even if I have to swap out the video card.(Amiga OS) would be nice, too)

I find MacMini more expensive than G4 towers.Have several here all bought for around $100 or less, including one with lcd display. And don't forget the lampshade iMacs!

I have 1680x1050 16bit running on my Voodoo 16Mb and even had it running on a PIV if I recall correctly. The amount of VRAM should be sufficient.

Yes, it might not be enough if you enable 3d layers, but my mini with 32MB handles a 1600x1200 display nicely.

Due to success of my question... there is some site with info about morphos releases or something?

I think is a god idea to know some news about it sometimes.

I've been kind of hoping for a version of MorphOS that runs on the old bulky transparent monitor macs you can pick up for free these days.

unofficially, it was to be around the end of this month, and April, but as stated before the mini release, an update of current 2.2 is scheduled. I say wait, the release will come soon enough, If not mistaken, OS4 has something in the works too....This spring/summer is gonna be hot

One model at a time!  Let the MorphOS team finish the port to the Mini before we start asking for other models.  Unless there is a better PPC option that becomes available to the MorphOS team between now and the date they decide the team is finished working on the releases for  the Pegasos, Efika and MacMini, maybe then they will decide to do more work on the MacMini port to make it work with other Mac models.  It would make sense for them to do so, unless there is a better alternative to port to, or the team decides they are done porting MorphOS to other platforms and models.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

The lampshade iMacs are perfect candidates for Amigas, just paint the base to look like a Boing Ball...

I think this whole MacMini affair currently deserves a poll.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

A poll? no need to get silly now, it has been shown working already.
