Which TCP/IP stack ?

Hi there,
I'm reviving my old A1200 .. but which IP stack should I be using ?  Are they all free or are some to pay for ?

Hi,

If you're on a relatively unexpanded A1200 with 3.0 or 3.1 and don't mind a bit of initial configuration plus an enforced 5-second wait when starting the network, the AmiTCP 4.0 demo version will do the job, and it's free!

A time limited demo of Miami came free with OS3.5 and Genesis came free with OS3.9

Miami and Miami DX can no longer be registered and several "Key Ring" web pages offer free keys (although the author has never officially released the product as freeware).

How about AmiTCP 2.2 with the 2.2 to 2.3 update? AFAIK it's the same stack which is at the core of Genesis, but it's freeware. IIRC the installer walks you through configuring the network, and can be re-run once it is installed if you want to re-configure it.

AmiTCP 3.0beta should be preferable to 2.3. AFAIR it's the same as 4.0, but without a nag screen telling you it's a demo. There's a third party guide to installing it somewhere, as the standard installer doesn't work well.

I use the Genesis stack which comes with OS3.9.

One word of advice I was given was to install Genesis before installing Boing Bags 1 & 2 as one of them will update Genesis if it is installed.

Oh, if you don't have an Ethernet adapter yet then buy one from AmigaKit as it comes with a floppy disk with a TCP/IP stack on it, plus the drivers and the PCMCIA "fix".

That's what I used on my A1200 and it's a painless install and well worth the money (wired and wireless cards available).

I've used MiamiDX and AmiTCP.

AmiTCP seems to use a lot less memory and it seemed faster too, but I couldn't get it to work with Amiga Explorer, so I am now using MiamiDX.

I'm using TermiteTCP, one of the few TCP/IP stacks that doesn't use MUI. It actually seems faster to me than Genesis is on my OS3.9 A1200T, but mainly it's just a simple, no-frills TCP/IP, took me 3 minutes to configure, tops...

I'll have to check that out. There is a Genesis fix on Aminet but nothing seems to fix the icon becoming a tiny dot when the layout/snapshot is saved in the right most menu. It's easy enough to avoid but it would be nice if it were fixed. Genesis is stable and fast besides that. Much easier to use than the old AmiTCP too.
