@omnicron10
Here is a dump of the relevant uboot vars in my SAM440ep:
ide_cd_timeout=20
ide_doreset=on
ide_reset_timeout=10
bootcmd=menu; run menuboot_cmd
bootdelay=3
boot1=s4siicdrom
boot2=s4sii
boot3=
boot_config=Default
boota_timeout=3
boot_method=boota
menuboot_cmd=boota
menucmd=menu
menuboot_delay=3

You may want to double check what you have if Lecta's advice doesn't work for you.

This is a SAM440ep, right?

Are you really trying to help or is it just feinted interest so you can point and laugh safely from afar again?

Meanwhile, there's this:
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38706

To me this is eerily reminiscent of the installation issues that users have had with OS4 on the A1 series, except now there is no variance in hardware (theoretically) to explain things away.

Found it...  so far on SAM you MUST have the boot drive on J20 or J21. It wont work on J22 or J23... nice..  Lets put it in the FAQ..

Must be a Uboot issue..

now to play with AOS4.1!!

Thanks for all the help.

Tim

@omnicron10

Glad you got it sorted, uboot can be tricky. Go find Ranger on OS4Depot, it has a bios tab that will list all your uboot variables set. Will come in handy if you have any more problems & you need to know the settings.

Interesting thing is no matter what I select in Uboot to boot from (IDE/SATA/CDROM) it will always boot from the first Sata connector regardless of the media (HD or CDROM).

At least I got it booting.  I am going to reinstall to make sure it all works again.

If I plug in the mouse the kb stops working and visa versa.  I have not been able to get the USB on the motherboard headers working yet.  The USB on the ATX backplane works.

I browse is SO much faster on this than the A4000/060

Gotta love it!

Check your Sam440ep manual:
"SATA ports: J20 (Hard Disk), J23 (DVD/CD), J21, J22"

It is in there but maybe not as obvious as it could be.

So J21 and J22 can not be used at all?  Only J20 is HD?  I got a CDROM working on J20 but not on J23 for booting OS4.

I am not expecting perfection at this point but it was nice that it now works.  Kinda of a wierd issue but can imagine in the future it shall work better.

Now I need to figure out that new FS.  I made a partition with JXF so I have to figure out how to get it to work now.

Thanks

Just remember, you can't boot from a JXFS partition yet, so use SFS or FFS for that.

I'll keep ssolie up to date on this thread if you need more help as he has a SAM.

@omnicron10

I'm guessing you can use whatever you want in whatever SATA port you want.

But if you want to be able to boot from HD, make sure its the one plugged into J20.

If you want to boot from a CD drive, make sure its the one plugged into J21.

Not completely true. At boot you can press enter (when you see the text progress bar) and select a different device. Turning from SATA CDROM to SATA HDD should work even if the drive is placed in the second SATA connector.

Why would you care?  I don't see you caring what Amiga Inc thinks about this obvious violation of their IP afterall.

It's only obvious after Hyperion loses the lawsuit and that has not happened yet (and hopefully won't happen).

It is "unusual" that they are taking this chance by violating the original contract before the IP rights have been determined by the court, and may be stopped by the judge, until the case is over, if A.inc files an injunction, but we have not heard of anything like that yet, so I wonder if A.inc has run out of money for lawyers, or if an agreement between A.inc and Hyperion is close to happening?

What is obvious up until this point in time is that the lawyers have probably made more money than either A.inc and/or Hyperion lately.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
