WinUAE crashes...?
« on: October 13, 2008, 08:24:27 AM »
Hi, all.

I'm programming on WinUAE.
There's some reasons, the real Amiga cannot be used, so I'm using WinUAE.

I started to code some simple program. Just kill the OSes, then bang the custom chips, and go on. (I used to do this several years on real Amiga...)

Okay, then program was crashed in simple reason. (Maybe blitter parameter bugs). I reboot the Amiga on WinUAE, but Amiga never reboot...
I stopped WinUAE, then re-execute WinUAE, but causes GURU meditations... Without HDF(HD1-Work:) mounting, it works fine.
I think HD1-Work: was crashed by WinUAE...

Can anybody explain me why WinUAE crashes HDF files?
I have not experienced a similar things on the real Amiga.

Can anybody help me? :-o

First of all make sure you are using the latest WinUAE. Also make sure the logging options of WinUAE are enabled so whenever it crashes, and you suspect it's due to WinUAE bug, send the logs together with the description to the author of WinUAE.

With regards to the hardfile, it might happen it's not valid, especially if you use FFS or similar filesystem. Try to boot without startup-sequence with the hardfile mounted and let it validate. Simply wait till the HDD led activity is gone.

Another solution would be to mount the hardfile to some already pre-configured emulation package like AIAB or AmiKit and access it from there. Just to check whether it works.

I personally always backup the hardfiles. It's so simple as it's only one file.

You may also wish to contact WinUAE's project leader Toni Wilen, detailing the problem.

With any luck, fixes will be made and integrated into a future WinUAE release.

Cheers,
James
