Amiga CD32 PAL/NTSC Hardware switch?
« on: October 06, 2008, 01:25:16 AM »
I would like to install a HARDWARE NTSC/PAL switch in my CD32. I've searched all around, and can't find any info on doing it anywhere. Does anyone know a link or know exactly how this can be done?

I am aware of the early startup mouse PAL/NTSC switching method and so on.

Follow the pin #41 of Alice, take out the 0 Ohm resistor (PAL/NTSC selector).

On the Alice side solder a wire to a switch. Add a 4,7k resistor to Vcc (PAL) and on the other pin of the switch, put a 10k resistor with the other pin grounded.

I don't take responsibility for the hack, be warned.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

So will this allow the CD32 to play all PAL games properly?  I live in Japan and just got one of the Phillipine CD32s, got a Sharp Aquos LCD TV but worried if I can play CD32 games and if the TV will support PAL from the CD32.

The hack only change the screen refresh rate. The video encoding will stand NTSC in the machine.

For a proper conversion, you need to change the entire video encoding circuit, plus the main crystal.

LCD TVs are a {bleep} for 50Hz refresh rates (PAL).

Might add that I've done this mod on a few A500s, 2000s and my 3000 without any resistors. There's an internal pullup in Alice/Agnus, so they aren't really required. Just connect a switch to the jumper/soldering pads; closed: NTSC, open: PAL.

@ Zac67

That only works on early Amiga's made after the introduction of the Fatter Agnus and before the 8375 SuperFat Agnus.

Doesnt work with A500+, A600, A1200, A4000 or CD32.
