WTB/T: A500 keyboard
« on: October 03, 2008, 01:41:16 AM »
Hi guys,

I just bought an A500 setup on eBay auction link, and as you'll see in the link, the "Z" key is missing from the keyboard.  Now that the machine has arrived, I find that not only is the key itself missing, but it looks like that spot on the keyboard where the "plunger" on the underside of the key would be is actually broken, and I seriously doubt that a replacement key would work or stay attached.

So, with that long-winded explanation out of the way, does anyone here have an extra A500-style keyboard that they could live without?  I'm open to purchasing or trading for one - while I'm new to the Amiga scene, I've got some other Commodore 64/128 stuff that I could possibly part with...

Thanks!

Huxley

Huh, that looks promising - would it work as an internal swap for an A500?  IIRC, the 1200 was a more traditional desktop with detached keyboard, wasn't it?

Thanks!

No, the A1200 is flat like the A500. The computer you see in the picture above the keyboard is an A1200.

A1200 keyboard is going to require heavy modification in order to be used in an A500.

An A500 keyboard has it's own controller board in the empty space that you can see in the A1200 keyboard upper right corner. In an A500 the ribbon cable is also located there and it connects to the controller board. See link for reference.

Can't really tell from that auction picture but it is possible that yours could be fixed simply by getting a new 'Z' key cap and possibly the spring.

I have a couple of A500 keyboards that have bad controllers but keys are good so if you want me to ship you a "Z" key w/bottom portion as well...

Send me picture of what that bottom portion looks like (perhaps from one of your other keys) as there are different versions of A500 keyboards.

I have a couple A500 keyboards with good controllers. I'll trade you one and a standard amiga mouse for that golden image mouse there that came with your unit. PM me if your interested.
