Amiga Java
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:02:12 PM »
Would anyone be interested in helping on a port of the Java Virtual Machine to the Amiga? I think Java is the top thing Id like to see on Amiga and am considering trying to port it over for os4.1. If anyone is interested in helping let me know. Im sure it wont be all smooth but imagine the possibilities once it actually works. This would probably be a port from scratch, using the latest code from Sun.

Why not work on JAmiga instead of starting from scratch? The JVM is already running, it's the native methods that need to be done.

I had a look at the JAmiga site, and it looks like graphics are also relatively complete.

I wonder how it handles on pre-AGA AMIGA's with relation to color management and chunky to planar conversions (i.e. the Image implementation).

Has anyone tried this stuff already ?
(Haven't touched my AMIGA's since I stuffed 4Mb into the 1200, which is way too long ago).

I haven't tried the latest version. This project has been pretty stagnant for the last year because the one guy working on it is too busy with other stuff. If you (or anyone else) want to help out, I suggest that you contact him and ask if there are any changes he has which are not committed yet.

From memory, the graphics stuff is still in its early stages, and Swing is not supported yet.
