Pure Basic
« on: September 22, 2008, 02:58:42 PM »
Once uppon a time, long long ago.  I learned VB 5, don't laugh:-D  I enjoyed using it but eventually gave up becuase it was so tied to Windoze:madashell:  I never leared an other language as Technical Support is what I do and programming was just a hobby.  Now I have stumbled across Pure Basic and I am considering buying and learning it.  It is cross platform and inculudes Amiga :-D  I was wondering if anyone here had ever used and what the general opinion of it as a languge was.

Thanks

I don't think the developer is supporting it anymore (on Amiga, it's still supported on the other platforms.)

That said it's not like it stopped working.  It seems to be partly open sourced now, so someone may be working on it still.

I have a licence for it, it's a pretty decent language, however the docs weren't great for starting out.

Good news if you want to save a little money or not let it die completely. Not good news if you want to request new features, like OS4 support, without doing it yourself.

Well I went ahead and downloaded the Windows version, as I don't have Amiga at this time.  soon I hope.  I have also found a book on ebay so I can get started with it.  This is a close as I think I will come to being able to write something that will run on an Amiga.  Hopefully someone will take it and keep it uptodate.

The company put that in their site. This is no piratebay or emule. I was not intending to encourage piracy, you are allowed to download this file from their site, as they put the link there.

You can always buy the full version and let them know you did it because you were interested in the Amiga version, and want the other platforms as well. This would help to support the development for the Amiga (and get new toys too :)

I would do it if I like their tool :-D

Oh, I will let them know.  Belive me I will...  But first I have to learn how to use it.  All I have ever done is VB, this Basic is different in some ways.  I got the book also so, hopefully I can get up to speed on it.  And of couse this is a website full of devlopers.  I am sure I can get help when I need it.  Now all I need is the extra money to get me an OS 4 box so that I can play with that also.  First I am going to give it try on WinDoze...

Just had a quick view...

It seems very nice, but the Amiga Version does not have the "visual" Part  :-(

It has nice examples. I will play a litle bit more... :-D

Just use C and the SDL library, it's cross platform and really easy to use :-D
