best program to mount iso file
« on: September 18, 2008, 06:08:40 PM »
I want to boot OS3.5 on one of my partitions on my CF card acting as my main DH0 in my 1200...I dont have a cd rom at present to use with my Miggy so I heard theres a way to mount the iso on the CF from my pc and install the OS onto my real Amiga..anyone tried this and can recommend a (hopefully free) program to do this on the pc :-?

I think he wants to mount it on his Amiga.

@klx300r
You could try one of these:
http://aminet.net/search?query=mount+iso

Alternatively, you can just make a zip file of the contents of the CD, put that on your CF card, unzip it on to a hard disk on your Amiga, then mount AmigaOS3.9: to that drawer and it should install from there.

Edit -
Re-read your post and my reply didn't make sense. Those mounting tools would require you to copy the ISO to your CF card and mount it directly on the Amiga. You *could* use Daemon Tools to mount it on the PC and then share it on the network with something like SMBFS on the Amiga, but I don't think this would work very well.

I think klx300r is trying this:

1) mount the ISO of 3.5 on their pc
2) extract the files from the ISO onto a CF card
3) Take the CF card to the miggy
4) Install 3.5 onto the CF card and boot from it

I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me

I think you're better off doing steps 1, 2 & 3 but copy the files to a HD partition and install to the CF card from there (as moto said in his post)

At first I thought he wanted to:

1) Make an ISO of 3.9
2) Put the ISO on his CF card
3) Mount the ISO on his Amiga and use it like a real CD-ROM

But I only thought that because I didn't read his first post properly ;-) I think he wants to make an ISO of 3.9 then mount it on a PC and then share it. Not really sure why he needs to make an ISO to do that when he could just share the CD-ROM drive directly and access that across the network using SMBFS or over FTP.

Just be careful where you copy the files. Putting them on non-Amiga filesystems might cause you to lose file attributes (like the executable bit on executable programmes) and things will break.

How about mounting iso on PC and then firing up WinUAE and mount that mounted iso on it. Install then full system to CF card with WinUAE and then just plug ready made system to your Amiga without any tuning on it? :)

De-archive the iso to your PCMCIA CF card? ... yes, that would work. I presume you can then install from it with no problems provided you assign the 'CD' to the card before installation.

Not something I've tried personally, but can't see any problems.

@ZeeBeeDee
I have the original CD so you are saying that its possible for me to copy the entire contents of the cd to my CF card ..plug that card into my pcmcia port and install it directly from there ..what happens when the computer reboots during installtion..will an assign command do the job :-?

BTW, you guys are awesome...i wasnt expecting so many quick responses :cheers:

You can do a file by file copy from the CD to the CF card, keeping the folder structure the same as it is on the CD.

Yes, a simple assign command in either the startup-sequence or user-startup should suffice.

When  you've got Amiga ... you're AWESOME!  :-)
