Can native Amiga screens be "promoted" to an RTG screen?
« on: September 14, 2008, 03:25:34 PM »
Hi, I have never used a "screen promoter" utility before, but I hear they are very useful.

I am running WinUAE with Picasso96 RTG software installed.  All the Picasso modes look awesome, but older programs that run in NSTC interlace mode look squished vertically (only occupies the top two thirds of the screen).

As I recall, this same thing happened on my "real" Amiga as well with RTG graphics card.

So....can a "native" ECS screen mode (NTSC 640x480 interlace) be "promoted" to an RTG Picasso96 640x480 screen?

Can anyone recommend a good screen promoter that works in OS3.9?

I would think they can be... certainly the Workbench 3.0/3.1 IControl Prefs editor Mode Promotion option works on a real Amiga when using DoublePAL/NTSC screenmodes.

Promoting to RTG screens works with varying degrees of success. Non-system friendly programs will usually experience graphics corruption or be barely usable. Stability goes way down, too.

But you're using WinUAE - the most compatible and configurable Amiga ever. You should not need to use screen mode promotion. Check your WinUAE settings. Make sure your linemode is set to doubled or scanlines.
